Hello all, i'm looking to buy a new headset, i currently have the Plantronics 777 5.1 surround sound but my new puppy chewed off my mic. haha so, im looking for surround sound again. possibly cordless unless those are totally not recommended... I'm not to picky on the brands. looking to spend around $100 more or less is ok. i'm just to busy to do the shopping and i know a lot of you love to do this. so send me some links and some opinions. Thanks! Jak3rs!

I'm assuming you want something different than just another pair of 777's?

I have a 5.1 headset (Turtle Beach HPA2) and a 2.0 headset (Senheiser HD280). I just don't feel the speaker placement in two head-cups allows for enough diversity of source to properly implement surround sound in headphones.

My 5.1's aren't terrible, but I prefer my 2.0 headphones to them.

The Senheiser HD280's are old enough to be found cheaply on eBay or on sale via name-brand sources; they used to be $299, but you can routinely find them for $99 and less. Couple them with a Logitech USB mic and you're good to go.

Any gamer who uses audiophile grade stuff will tell you that "surround" sound headsets are a waste, they are usually worse at sounding like surround sound than 2 channel headsets are.

If you want good positioning and insane clarity, something like the ATH-AD700's or DT770's would be good but they don't have mic's, If you want a mic and pretty decent positioning/clarity get the sennheiser PC360's

I have the razer carcharias and I'm not really impressed, they sound flat and pretty boring, and its hard to locate people in game with them. They are nice and comfortable though.

Did this headset come in a 5.1 version as well? cuz from the picture, this is what i have right now, but i though it was a 5.1, while this says 7.1. ha

I think it's "real 5.1" but supports "virtual 7.1."

I use Astro A40s cause they work with everything and i can use the MixAmp with other headsets aswell. Even though it's virtualized surround sound, I can stil decipher locations of enemies based upon footsteps.

I suggest the Steel Series Sibera V2's. The quality of the sound is amazing, they are not bulky if you actually wear them so I suggest them. They are a great headset and every now and again you can find them on sale at New Egg or another online electronic store.

How do you like your Asus P67? I'm waiting for the Asus Maximus Z68 to be released.

Peace.

Hey. I like my P8P67 a decent amount. I haven't really run into any issues yet, it boots into Fedora and Windows just fine. Also, the P8P67 can have socket burn if you overclock too far.

If you want to SLI or CrossfireX on the P8P67 get one of the models that isn't on the 16x/4x design.

You can also get a BIOSTAR TP67XE, which is an excellent board!

The Maximus line is, of course, better than all of these. Good luck on your build!

I've had a turtle beach HPA2 headset for almost 2 years. it sounds amazing and you cant feel it on your head. but its not noise canceling, so others can here the game around you and you can here voices from across the house.

Turtle beach sells part to their stuff as long as they still sell that product. so buy the newest one.
