PCI Express X16 2.0

Are all the new cards coming out in X16 2.0 down-compatible to regular X16, because those new 9600's look real nice, but I don't have X16 2.0 on my mobo.

PCI-E 2.0 is completely backwards compatible, but if you want to get the most out of a PCI-E video card you need a PCI-E motherboard, too.

Yup it would be total commercial suicide to make PCIE 2.0 Cards work with only PCIE 2.0 motherboards,both PCIE 1.1 and 2.0 are the same in design the only difference is 2.0 has more bandwith but even the bandwith on 1.1 is no where close to being fully used yet so you'll be fine for a few years yet.

I know this isn't the same but it makes the same point. I read an article about a guy who upgraded his cpu and noticed he didn't get that much improvement. The problem was that his mb fsb only ran at 1000mhz not 2000 or 2600mhz. Thus, he was not able to get he full performance.

Yup, that'll happen. The FSB on the motherboard should be greater than or equal to the FSB on your processor. The FSB controls how fast the processor can communicate with the RAM, so do the math on that one.

The world of computers is a complicated place, and people need to put in the research (or ask questions in the eGO forums lol) before they make the large investments, in my opinion. That's what all of us geeks are here for: answering questions.
