This can't be happening.

TF2 Free2Play = nice.

It's an old game, Valve only has two characters left to feature in updates (Valve has said they see a huge spike in new TF2 sales every time they release a character update). If they want to make it free and rely on their cash shop for profit, I'm fine with that.

TF2 Pay2Play = eh, they had a nice run. Would the last person turn out the lights on the way out? Thanks.

One bad thing I can see happening if this does become free-to-play is more hacks. People won't be afraid of their account being VAC banned because they just start another and hack some more for free.

Thats my thoughts. I honestly dont care if they decide to put it out for free, I can get people I know to play it if that is the case, but hacking would be a much larger issue. Now people dont want to hack because they would have to re buy the game again if VAC detects them, but if its free they will use anything and not care about any bans.

Valve always seems to like experiment with TF2. I wouldn't be surprised if the game goes F2P after the medic update this week. It'd be nice, since we've technically come full circle.

It would bring in new recruits, and new players in general. I think they'd give some sort of bonus to people who actually bought the game, and that'd be cool.

It is the way to go for Valve if they want more cash in the bank, but I would not want it, I didn't buy the game for it to go Free to play and give me some stupid premium account/item as an excuse.

One major problem: the Drop System. What would prevent me from creating 100 idle accounts if start up cost is free?

Valve has sold over 480 billion copies
