Are we prepared for F2P?

With tf2 going free to play we're going to see a large influx of hackers, similar to what happened to Combat Arms and Arma 2. Are we prepared for such a massive change? Our servers will most likely be full all the time and regrettably need admin assistance. Maybe we can make it 23 players with a slot left open for admins?

I don't think we'll see that many more hackers than before, and i think it'll only be due to sheer extra numbers, not accessibility.

I wonder if there'll be an option, even if it's a server mod, to restrict non-premium players from joining servers. If it IS possible, I'm sure someone out there's going to be working on it.

A lot of communities are really upset about being unable to permaban hackers and the like with much success. One community I know is already preparing to shut down their TF2 servers and close up...

I wonder how this will turn out.

Guys read the FAQ Valve is already working on putting a system in place to take care of the guys who keep creating free accounts.

We need to get out there and get people into our servers!

This is exactly right. Everyone needs to calm down and just see for themselves how it plays out. The 2000 hours i've spent on tf2 I've encountered maybe 5 hackers. Tf2 has been out a long time. Counterstrike is hacked so much more than tf2 it's not even free. Css division gets so many ban requests each week it's so sad to see their pain. Then since you say tf2 is free, hackers will continue to comeback to our servers, eventually they will get tired and move on. It's not going to be remotely that bad as people are saying. Just try and play the game like you always have. Recruit as much as you can, this is a great chance to do it.

Red Alert! Red Alert! Deploy the banhammers!

Sure, we'll get more griefers, but I think it''l be only as much of a % of the current number of people playing TF2 pre-F2P. I'm certain that as players become more accustomed to the greater emphasis on team-orientated play-style of TF2 then this will be considered a successful move.

I still have my reservations with regards to Valve's more stringent controls against multiple hacker accounts, in the long run this is a win-win situation.

I'm not worried about that. Our community has a lot of good admins who know how to handle most situations. Sure, we may have to post a demo more than once per year, but I think it'll be a fair trade for a higher number of recruits and better server activity and rankings.

I read that part of the FAQ and that made me laugh hard. I have little to no faith in that statement.

We have admins that have been doing this stuff for a while, so I have no fear of griefers coming in and griefing my League of Legends.

Valve said they were going to be upping their security when it came to hackers. That's obviously necessary considering what they have released. Look at this on the bright side though, more players means a happier experience, and there is nothing a hacker can do against an admin's ban.

1. make new steam account
2. download TF2 for free
3. rejoin server and cause more trouble
4. get banned again
5. repeat
6. profit???

Spiral Knights, for example recognizes different steam accounts used in the same PC so you don't make more accounts to farm energy and money. So it's possible for Valve to control these kind of stuff, don't worry.

People are overreacting, let's just see what happens..

More hackers = less happy players = less Mann Co. purchases = less Valve profit < Valve stopping hackers

You obviously haven't heard about a company called "Nexon". :D
