TF2 now has Strange Weapons (the ones that level up with kills)

You can only find them in crates (series 19 and up)

They level up with the more kills you get.


I don't think they gain any abilities, just a new name for each level.

The final level is something like 'Hale's Own Weapon'

Also, when traded, they revert back to 0 kills (no need trying to trade for leveled weapons)


Strange Weapons can be found in these varieties:
The Chargin' Targe
Grenade Launcher
Sticky Bomb Launcher
The Eyelander
Rocket Launcher
Pain Train
Shotgun (Pyro/Engi/Soldier/Heavy)
Minigun
Direct Hit
Gloves of Running Urgently
Natascha

Ugh more things from crates... neat idea but it would be nice to be able to get them without trading or spending money.

considering ALL weapons you can find in the series 19 and up crates have Strange weapons in them, it's probably safe to assume future crates will have new weapons. So, no scattergun now, but probably later.

So, is Valve making more money off of TF2 these days than most other paid MMO game devs? I'd love to know how many keys they are selling >.<

I think they are getting more money from the shop and from those keys than previously expected. It is most likely the reason they decided to make TF2 free, they get enough money from the shop to sustain the servers and the influx of players would just provide more money for them.

Valve is very smart... ;)
 
Any way to turn off the level up notifications?

I really don't care if some random player levels his direct hit.

Agreed, I don't mind the chat box notification, but the "system" notification is rather annoying.

Agree 100%. I'm usually pretty benign when it comes to stuff like this, but having to press K to dismiss that pop-up window is like...not having a pop-up blocker in my internet browser.

And those weapons aren't that uncommon - last night there was a spamfest of 'Herp has leveled up his Derp! Press K to dismiss'
 
I think I'll stick to collecting vintage and genuine weapons. Can't have everything.
 
I'm now a proud owner of a strange rocket launcher and shotgun and in pursuit of them I unboxed two unusuals yesterday!

I have yet to get an unusual or strange from a crate. Hope to find one at some point.
