This server is using newer protocol than your client

Ok so last night I was playing TF2 just fine. Then I took a break and loaded TF2 again. Then on every server I tried to join it said "This server is using newer protocol than your client." No, this is not torrented I bought the game 2 years ago. I have tried reinstalling steam, reinstalling tf2, restarting my pc, what else can i do? Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

I get another error now, "The server you are trying to connect to is running a newer version of the game"
Note: My game is set to automatic updates.

EDIT: I have tried everything! I reinstalled steam twice. Once from disc and once from laptop. I reinstalled TF2 three times once from disc, two from laptop. I deleted Clientregisrty.blob, steam.dll, and steamui.dll. I also deleted engine.dll from tf2 folder. Restarted my pc twice. I verified integrity of game files, defraged, and searched for steam client updates. What else is there to do?

I believe you need to update your tf2.

Try right clicking the game... then properties and then under the tab should be "Verify integrity of files" im not sure if this will update it but steam should update it itself normally. Look under all the tabs to see what looks interesting.

I defraged and verified, but that did absolutely nothing it still says the server you are trying to connect to is running a newer version of the game

Try exiting steam then relog.
