Counter strike source not working

Hello i just found out about the update and i was wondering how to do it i tried closing steam and reopening it like it said "The updates will be applied automatically when your steam client is restarted." so if i can just get some help i would be most thankful.

just open up the game

i opened the game but there was no update o.o i even tried joining a game but it said my client was different from the server.
