wireless router suggestion needed

My router is toast, need a new one. Was looking at Netgear N600 dual band n router ($80). Do I need dual band? There is a version with gigabit and dual band for $129. Or I can get gigabit w/o dual band for $60 - $80. I do have a gigabit network adapter. Had to replace my onboard with a PC Card (both router and adapter seemed to have gone at the same time. In any event, my comp connects to internet through cable modem. My stepdaugther's lap top and ipod touch and our Wii all connect wirelessly (i.e., no wireless gaming comp). Are either of these choices overkill for me? If so any other recommendations. I am not bound to netgear, but they seem to have a good rep. I am replacing a trendnet which I didnt really like.

Well, I'm no router expert but I found this article here.
I think if you're having no problems with your current frequency then you won't have much need for the other freq. from what it looks like to me. Although again, I'm not an expert with routers, I just took a couple college courses for networking. I'm looking at upgrading my router system too, I still have one of the oldest wireless routers around. Bleh.

Grab a Linksys E2000. They are around $50 USD, have Gigabit ethernet, and a reasonable wireless range. The security features are well above average as well.

Good bang-for-buck. I can suggest other routers if you want crazy features. I feel, however, that you would be wasting money from the information you provided.

I will look at that thanks. A couple other things though. 1. My step-daughter's room is upstairs from where the router will be. Also she dloads songs and you tube videos and plays them on her laptop or ipod touch. Will the router you suggest still be a good choice? Also what about this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833162031 ? The cheapest I found a new Linksys is $72 shipped, newegg has it for $80.

The BUFFALO WZR-HP-G300NH..... do you want to use open source configs/roms? They aren't required, but to use the max of that router the are. The E2000 is easy to config while still using the most of the device.

I apologize for the price quote. The cost of $80 USD is more accurate. (My prices are for refurbished devices which we commonly use in my shop.)

Even with the new information, the E2000 will suit you well.
