Not really a dropbox idea IMO, I kinda wanted to get a public opinion.

What do you guys think about light class limits, like you can't have more than 4 of every class? It would make servers a lot more productive.

I disagree with this. And trust me, I get annoyed whenever there are more than 4 spies on Mesa (usually leading to me having to leave my favourite class)

Why? Because once you enforce limits, you're not solving the problem, you're bottling it. There are, say, 4 spies on a team because 4 people want to play spy at that given point. When you limit it to 3, this means that someone who wants to play spy can't. Now if someone else wants to play spy, it adds to 2 people who are frustrated. They could try many things to get around the system, for example, going into spectator to force an autobalance and go on the opposing team, or general whining/annoyance on the chat. If they get to be the 4th spy, they might find that either the class isn't for them, or it isn't the right time, and get the hint, or else the opposing team might already know how to deal with that class and be ready.

I'll be frank, if there was a class on TF2 that, when stacked, tips the game to one side's favour, I'd agree. But that's the beauty of TF2, there's always a counter, always. Too many spies? Pyro/Jarate. Scouts? Natascha. Engineers? Soldiers. And so on, and so forth. The game balances itself out, like a gyro coming to equilibrium.

Depending on the map, heavy medic rushes can be pretty unstoppable (in 16v16).

Not much can stop 8 heavies and 8 medics (or some better combination thereof - maybe 10 and 6, etc), assuming they don't let themselves all get backstabbed.

Still against it though.

I feel like that'll deter people away from playing on our servers. I'd love to have 6 competitive style servers (6v6, only official Valve maps, no crits, heavy class restrictions, etc.), but that wouldn't attract people.

It's nice in theory, but I'd rather have a full group of people to play with than have even the lightest class restrictions.

and entire team of demo/soilders can actually do quite a bit of harm to a entire team fo heavy/medics...iv actually seen i on mesa everyone was soilder the entire other team heavy and some medics, soilders murdered the whole group because heavies cant do crap long range and to slow to dodge a wall of rockets coming at them and medics are weak enough splash damage would pick most of them off

Like Dal said, it's nice in theory, but I think it would ruin the spirit of Team Fortress.

Not having limits is why i love eGO servers so much, you can play any class whenever you want. I know it can be frustrating having 4 snipers, 4 engies, or 4 spies doing absolutely nothing for the team, but you need to rally up the team and tell them "choose another class we can beat these guys with the right strategy." :)

Like many of the answers above. This just simply would not work. It wouldn't attract anyone new to our servers, and I'm sure it would cause of people of our current players to leave. It would just cause frustration, even if it seems like a good idea.

I hate servers that do that with 24 slots, imagine the chaos on one of our 32 man servers

When I've seen that done on servers, I sometimes see people just waiting in spawn so they can switch to the class they want.

It'll be like forced AFKers.

I've seen this problem solve itself on Mesa.

With the spy example, I've seen the other team respond with more pyros; some of the spies will then switch to a different class.

One problem area is engies, since they can lock down parts of Mesa tighter then the spy's balaklava. The solution is either get multiple ubers organized, move the action away from the deadlocked area, or hope the engies get bored and leave.

like some ppl already said it would take the fun out of things. sometimes youll find ppl choosing a class and rushing the heck out of the enemy team on mesa. its alot of fun.

Removing choice is one of the most harmful things you can do to a game. If I play TF2, BC2 or any other game and I run into a server that has class limits, nine times out of ten I leave immediately.

On Mesa there is no long range other than A. Once L/C gets capped it'd be over. At least, if the medics can dodge rockets/nades that is.

As Mesa's self-proclaimed second resident spy (let's face it, Nook is better than me), let me say that there are only 2 places where an engi cannot truely be stabbed, (1): If he builds inside the vent overlooking your team's second CP (L or C), or (2): If he builds in the corridor between spawn and (L or C), with his back against the wall, in the corner beside the windows. And even then the soloution is another class, either (1): Go pyro and get it from below where it can't target you, or (2), Soldier with direct hit, grenade Demoman, or Tomislav Heavy (being healed) who're quick enough to run in and out of the door from the CP can take it down.

Of course, bringing it back on topic, if these classes are restricted, you can't necessarily rely on the people playing the class to do what you want/do it in a professional manner.

Lobbies is where you should be looking Rukus.

Otherwise, not a good idea in my mind.
