Im wicked jelly you've seen the aurora borealis.

Well... Seen... sort of. It wasnt directly overhead and it wasnt all that strong. The camera picked it up just fine with a 30 second exposure, but to the naked eye, it kind of just looked like a gray cloud above the horizon. We knew it was the aurora, but in person on that particular day, nothing that amazing.

Are these edited at all?

Yes, I always edit my photos. I shoot in RAW, so at a minimum I have to perform RAW conversion, then usually a curves adjustment to even out the color balance and boost or reduce contrast. Sometimes I use photoshop filters to provide a little extra "oomph" but not always. And some of those photos were processed with HDR software.

The first 5 shots were taken with the Rebel XT since I did not own the 60D (and the 15-85) until April. The remainder were taken with the 60D. Most of the shots were taken with the 10-22, two with the 55-250, and one with the 15-85. I also use a cable release when using my tripod.

And since I seem to have left these off... here are a couple more shots!

And technically this next one is not from 2011, but it was last December, so close enough.

The waterfall? I know what you mean, more blur in the pool at the bottom would have been nice.

But I actually did use ND filters for it. Both my 2 and 3 stop filters were used along with a CPL (I think). They were split filters, so I ended up with between 2 and 5 stops filtered. It was already as slow as I could get it at ISO 100 and f/13, which got me a 15 second exposure. As I wasnt willing to stop it down any further, that was as long as I could get it.

Didnt wanna start a new thread, so here are some from my recent trip down the Great Smoky Mountains. Sorry if these are too large, but I didnt want to do them an injustice by resizing them too small.

This first one is actually better larger. The photo came out blurry which actually led to it looking like a painting.

And last, but certainly not least... in what is my favorite photo from the trip, and one of my all time favorites that I have taken
