Third Party Mods

Okay my question is. third party mods like Garry's Mod and like Battlegrounds 2,
what games are required to run them? i downloaded garry's Mod 9 off of download.com, ran the installer and it installed into my steamapps/sourcemods folder. It said it should show up in my Steam games list after i restarted but it didnt. The only games i have are CSS and DODS. so yeah i was wondering. ANd if anyone has Battlegrounds, what games does that require? im thinking about downloading that game aswell.

I believe you have to have Half-Life 2. Not sure though, but I'll have to check.

Yes GMOD9 requires HL2.
