We will be performing a partial ladder reset to mark the beginning of Season Two. Rather than a full reset, players will have their Elo rating reset to certain milestone values based upon their finish at the closing of Season One. More details will be coming as we draw closer to the event.

Discuss? I always felt that a soft elo reset would be more fair, but a true elo reset would be the most fair if "elo hell" does exist. Rather than milestone values I would prefer they be reset to (1200+Current Rating)/2, but meh. (Also, I don't have much to worry about, as my ranked elo is low, only 1370 solo and 1450 5v5).

I assume this applies to both ranked and unranked elo ratings.

This could be good because it gives people a chance to reset and catch up :)

Will the reset cost 6300 IP too?

All kidding aside, I think this is the best move, especially when talking about people who are in my position. I never played a lot of ranked and when I did, I always managed to get a bunch of morons or a single moron who would ruin the whole game for everyone. My ELO just dropped beflore 600 today, thanks for a row of wins as a result of the team refusing to work together, ie: not covering the jungler, or people just feeding.

I win one, and lose 5. An ELO Reset is a godsend for me, hopefully after that I can get some competent team members and actually enjoy playing in the ranked queue again.

adam if ur below 1200 a soft reset is bad for u. form what they jazzel is saying u current elo will be averaged with 1200. 600+1200/2=900. still stuck with baddies. they should hard reset. there is no such thing as elo hell. there are trolls and leavers at every level. the fact there are people in 2000 elo that can play 2 champions is stupid. people get carried up there that dont belong. if can make it to 2000 elo on ur own skill. u can do it again. every team starts a football season with an equal chance to win the superbowl, no advantages nothings based off last season, same with almost all major sports. star craft does hard resets works for them

Actually, SC2 doesn't do hard resets. Matchmaking rating stays the same, but division ranking (worthless, just there to let you know if you're progressing or not) does get reset.
Unfortunately the ELO system is based on 1v1 and not 5v5 so it doesn't account for others, but it's the best Roit has. I understand both sides of the story, but the same logic applies -- if you can climb back up to where you were after a hard reset, then someone who "belongs" higher but is in a lower bracket could climb up too (If LeaverBuster would actually, you know, bust leavers and Tribunal would keep banning away at the feeders)

Sounds good to me. Should be an interesting change of pace if good people are moved up. :)

No such thing as ELO Hell? I think my position can be considered ELO Hell. I think any reset is going to play to my advantage anyway, and if it doesn't, I'll just uninstall. I'd pay for a hard reset... 6300 IP maybe? HarHar.

i can see how this will affect people differently depending on their current ELO.

but, if you are a good player you should be able to get up top quite quick.

in solo queue it will be harder, hence the fact i almost never solo queue.

its funny. i completely believe in ELO hell. just as easily as somebody bad can be carried up to 1800-2000 elo, somebody good can be kept down. its a complete luck draw man

"if you are a good player you should be able to get up top quite quick"

in solo queue individual effort is capped. regardless of how good you are you can only do so much, the rest is up to your team. if you keep getting stuck with the worst feeders/afkers/morons the other team will win.
there are games where all you can do is lose. it happens. that makes you lose elo, which makes those games more likely, making you lose more elo etc.

basically just hope you get lucky with your first 40-50 games and you end up in mid elo where more play will determine your true elo. people that get carried up will always eventually fall with more games played, but people that get held down won't necessarily. ranked is flawed in this way, always has been.

just stop caring about rating and play

I've given up on ranked player. Going to start doing normal queue and lock in random every time. Hopefully it will be fun.

that sounds decent actually. im the opposite.
i used to only play normal solo queue and not long ago (well maybe starting about 3-4 weeks ago now) something changed in MM. i went from +75 wins over losses down to, i think im at, +49 now over the course of like 5 days. i went from winning 3 out of 4 down to losing 3 out of 4.
i started getting the absolute basic idiots that literally did not even understand the basics of last hitting etc etc. like really basic things these ppl were clueless on. i asked one team i played against what their ratings were and such. they were a 5 man premade all with +150 up to +250 wins over losses, and im stuck playing with these basics.
i usually did fairly well, doing my best, but again individual efforts are capped. so i stopped playing normal queue and now all i play is ranked. i rarely care about team comp etc too, i just lock in poppy (my fav champ) and go.

the problem about playing ranked for me is i prefer playing melee DPS champions out of everybody. and (tho not intended) almost all my favourite champions lack hard CC, so i don't see myself getting real high in the rankings because i just don't care enough to be so tryhard with team comp. i don't care tho

that is true.

that's why i mostly play premade. as i said, solo queue is harder.

hence the fact that i don't like the rating system.

I really don't think someone "bad" can be put up to 2k elo. But i can see people who are worth 1800+ can be brought down to something not close to what they should be. In higher elo it's not about bad or not, but about mistakes. The more mistakes 1 team makes the better the other has to win. Team comp doesn't matter in solo que as much as it does in pre-mades. That why i recommend playing someone you are very good with. You will climb your way up. I know someone who only plays tryndamere and he climbed his way to 1900 elo.

There is no point in a reset if it is just going to be soft. In a hard reset the good players will be able to work their way back up easily, and if ELO hell truly does exist, (which I doubt) it will give the worse people a chance to start over and prove they have gotten better.

Oh. and they will never reset unranked ELO. You get accelerated ELO gain while leveling up so to make it fair they would have to put everyone back at level 1, which isn't going to happen.

^this.

Just going to throw this out there. Those of you who don't believe in ELO Hell have probably never had the luxury of losing 10 or 12 games in a row.

The whole premise of ELO hell is that a good player can find themselves in a hole that can't be dug out of because of a streak of bad luck. Yes, it is true, you can get bad team mates, but once you are at that low level you should be facing bad players constantly. Then it shouldn't matter at that point, because it is one apparently good player and four bad players vs five bad players. You should be able to carry yourself out of that hole, many high ELO players have intentionally put their smurfs into ELO hell then climbed to the top, it is doable.

While there may be a small ELO hell effect, I highly doubt the actual effect has much cause on anything at all, you may have ended up where you were as a stroke of bad luck, but if you can't dig yourself out, perhaps that is where you are supposed to be? Have you ever tried being friendly and taking a lead role in a match, helping your team mates to make good plays, planting plenty of wards to capitalize on the enemy's many mistakes which are sure to happen in a low ELO setting, and trying to peacefully break up any fighting between your team mates? A leadership role can work wonders, and should be able to get you out of ELO hell soon enough if you play your cards right. When you are respectful and make good calls, your team mates will take notice and listen.

Just my two cents.

I'd like to throw in my two cents. I found myself down to 1050 with a friend hovering around 900. What did we do?

1. Duo-queue (Optional, as you tend to be put with/against other duo-queuers). Never admit to duo-queuing as it tends to cause a lot of dissension though (I don't understand why, even if you aren't laning together there's still an unfortunate stigma attached to it)

2. Take lead roles -- jungler and carry. This helps you control the game more actively early on, when your team's moral is most influenced (Starting out ahead and then falling behind is much more winnable than starting from behind).

3. Assume leadership role as Carmine stated above.

4. Buy wards as Carmine mentioned

5. If you're first pick, ask your team for ban preferences. Be willing to pick more vital champions first and trade them down.

6. Always strive to improve your minion-score.

7. Never surrender before you've lost a fully engaged 5v5 teamfight and lost at least one inhibitor. (Even then I like to play games out till the end unless the enemy team is snowballing out of control).

/2cents
