BC2 Steam Problem

So, I have a problem with bad company 2. When I launch the game, it says

preparing to launch Bad Comapany 2

then 10 seconds later, I get

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 failed to start (error code 83)

I validated my steam files 3 times in a row,(right click game->properties->local files->Validate steam files, or something like that) and I also reinstalled the game, but I still get the message. (I also restarted my computer)


also, I read this on the BC2 forums about the same problem

This can also be caused by firewall issues. Make sure steam is in your firewall exceptions list if using windows firewall, and that the router is not restricting steam traffic.

I have turned my firewall off, and I have other steam games like CS:S and TF2, and I can play those fine without the error, so that means its probably not the routers problem.


Please help!!! I want to play BC2 as soon as I can.

ps.I posted here instead of the tech talk forums since I think most people who check this part of the forums know more about BC2.

Steam updates cause this error on other games too not just ours.

Restart your computer then start steam and go to properties for Battlefield Bad Company 2 and it should say verify.
Click that then run the game again.

Are you talking about where you go into local files, and you do the steam cache thing? cause if you are, you cant click on BC2 while it is doing that.

what? all I see is when I click on properties, I see set launch options and create desktop shortcut

Load Steam
From the My Games tab, right-click onBC2 and select Properties from the menu.
Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game cache... button.
Steam will verify the game cache files (GCF's).
Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.
they try and play.

If that doesnt work maybe a firewalls or anti virus program issue, on whatever anti virus you have try to give bc2 the full access which in norton is allow or whatever you may have.

If didn't work try and reinstall the game.
