Where as the i5-2400 is rated for 72.6 degrees so 65 on max load should leave plenty of headroom And in theoy would last "forever" running at that temperature.

regardless, i wasnt talking about major damage, technically an i5 wont receive permanent damage until about 98C but for the sake of your CPU lasting as long as possible you want to minimize CPU temps.

Also slaz, i assume you didnt run prime95 peak loads for that 65C temp, and peak prime95 can cause a lot higher temps than game load, so 65C is 7C away from Tmax. Basically the cooler you get your cpu, the longer and more stable it will run
 
Still coming down on the side of 65C being too damn hot. Manufacturer max safe temp on my i7 860 is 72C and on my 560ti it is 99C, doesn't mean that I want to be anywhere near that and I'm not. The cooler your gear is kept, the longer it's going to last.
 
true the cooler the better regardless but i still believe if you stay under the max recommended temperature your computer will become obsolete long before your cpu fries. with my i7 740qm I idle around 50-54C and under full load on prime 95 between 81-84C but i still fell comfortable considering I'm rated for 100C

wow thats extremely hot, i would never let my CPU temps go that high because CPU's unlike GPU's last awhile, the Q6600 has been out for years yet it still performs just as well as similarly clocked i7 and i5's because the Q6600 is cheap yes, but it overclocks so well that it makes it so more cost efficient.

GPU's have to be upgraded a lot more often because graphics technology is constantly improving on the year to year basis and GPU's make up the majority of your computer's gaming power whereas when you get a quad core clocked decently you wont have to get a new one for a long time since most games today dont even make use of more than 2 cores, most recent games like the witcher 2 and BF3 make use of more cores more efficiently.
 
Pretty sweet set up.
I recommend a CM Hyper 212+ for your CPU cooling. They can be found on sale for around $15-$25. $30+ on regular.

Not a big fan of the SE versions of the 460's. They've been proven to be poor performers for their price.
 
Nice PC build, that Fermi and the Core i5 should speed things up a bit. Someone commented that the GTX cards are getting big, they are actually pretty small compared to the ATI Cards such as the HD 5870.

I used to have the HD 5870 so I know how much of a monster it is. I had to do some special maneuvering to get it in and out of the case.
 
Im sure BF3 will not need top of the line equipment to run on Max.. it isnt going to be Crysis >_>
 
I was considering getting another GTX570 to run SLI because I heard it was going to be very graphic intensive. Anyone know the real scoop?

And that GPU isn't even that large. Most mid to high-end GPU's are a full 12 inches (4 more than the 460).
 
Yeah, I am seriously considering it. I will have to use the slush fund that the wife doesn't know about.
 
Yay for new hardware. My 4yr old 8800gts jus broke down and new Radeon 6950 is on the way, BF3 alpha here i come.

I think I have one of a kind video card cooling. Mine is a GTS 450 except it has two fans and is overclocked to max that my machine can handle.
