Tournaments

We're going to try and have a tournament.

Details are still being worked out, but as of now, we're leaning towards a Round-Robin single elimination style bracket.

Your feedback on having a Tournament is welcome! What kind of tournament would be most appealing to everyone? How can we make the different timezones work with scheduling?

I would be interested in setting up the EU events. I live in the UK.

Firstly its important to know what sort of time the European players are available too, but I suppose if we don't get many forum responses we could just post an announcement on the group page asking that. And if that doesn't work then just set a time that looks good and see how it goes.

As for the matter of the tournaments, I think a round-robin system would be best, with each match being best out of 3, with a point for each round win.

For example lets imagine this case: Player 1 wins first round, Player 2 wins second round, then Player 1 wins 3rd round, it would be 2 points to Player 1 and 1 point to Player 2 for the match.

Then once every player in the tournament has played against every other player, the player with the most points would win.

I personally believe this is the best system because it reduces the aspect of luck slightly. Even if you had a bad spell in a tournament you still have many other rounds/matches to play to counter that. Also I know a fixture site if you need help with keeping track of all of the scores and related stuff.

Thanks for offering to help with the EU event! There are so many international players, we really need that - thank you.

I'll do my best to get in contact with as many people from the group that I can to see when the best time is, and if there is a day of the week they prefer.

The Round-Robin idea sounds good. Giving everyone as fair a chance at victory as possible is important.

If enough people are interested, I can support the first few tournaments with Steam Games as prizes for the winner (probably just the actual winner, not sure if I can do 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes - sorry!)

Pic from the event: I thought 1 rite of replication was bad. Then someone had to go and play another :crying::

As far as Tournaments go, I have a few suggestions, use or ignore as you see fit:
- Because this is a video game and not an on-site tourney, allow players to switch decks in between rounds.
-- After the first round, allow each player to switch decks. Because of the nature of the game menu, disallow sideboard alteration.
- Single Elimination rounds, advancement 2 out of 3. No Loser's Bracket.
- Signups required, including information such as Best Time to Play
- Not necessary, but would be cool to find a sponsor so that winners may gain prizes (someone to fund for prizes. Would WotC or an individual be interested? We should ask around).
-Someone to participate as a 'Judge' and not as a Player, or 3 judges as players.
--Someone to "Validate" victories, really. The game takes care of what steps are legal and whatnot. It's also someone that validates when a bug occurs
--Judges cannot play spells or lands, and would have to discard every turn.

If your gonna have a magic the gathering tournament thing you should consider magic workstation instead, it lets you build your own decks and last i played duels of the planeswalkers you just use presets which really takes a way alot of the strategy of the game.
