So me and my wife are both military, so needless to say we make quite a but of money, so with this excess of money I am considering buying an Alienware computer. Is it worth it? What are some of the best gaming computers out there?

Alienware is one of those companies that all you are paying for is branding.

I would highly recommend building your own. For the money you're willing
to spend on Alienware, I can guarantee that you will get a better computer
by building it yourself.

I'm no expert on advising hardware, but if you need help choosing parts,
just ask. There's always someone out there willing to help out when it
comes to building computers.

For actually building the computer, you can either search for guides on
Google or use Phobus' Build Guide here on the forums.

BUT: If you're looking for a gaming/fast laptop, then please specify.

Dell Owns Alienware now. So if it was me Id stay away like the plague..

Like stated by Mr Game, Be better off building a PC. For the 1200 you are gonna drop on a Alienware, just cause it has an alien head on the case, You can build a monster of a PC that would turn that little alienware into a poodle, and still have $2-300 in your pocket.

If you let us know your budget, pretty sure we could get you a few nice setups off newegg or the likeness.

Lol, we're both 19 and make 5600 bucks a month, 1350 goes to rent on our apartment, the rest is free game

I guess you could buy one if you're really intent on blowing money on a fancy brand name, a custom logo and glowy lights. But again, that's really all an Alienware rig has going for it, since there's nothing special about Alienware components that make them magically better (in fact, since Dell picked up the brand, a lot of mediocre-at-best backwater components are used nowadays -- compare this to the fact that building your own means the components are only crappy if you pick crap hardware out of your own accord).

IMHO, the only Alienware products really worth spending money on is the MX11 (and maybe the MX13, too), since they're both portable AND powerful. Smaller, less heavy gaming laptops in that size range are a relative rarity, so the MX11/MX13 are a blessing to the gaming world. If you were looking for a laptop that doesn't feel like lugging a sack of bricks but can still game well, then it would be an entirely different story -- if you want a good desktop, stay away from Alienware.

Moneyware is what I call them, build your own, you have to start at some point. There is a full 2 hour video on how to build a PC on youtube, and thats what I just watched, and I successfully built my first gaming rig.

The hardest part in the process is picking out the parts.

Hope that helps.

no, if you have so much excess money and want good computer and are to lazy/dont want to build your self, find a local computer repair shop, many also build pc's have them do it the end result will be WAY better than aleinware, aleinware half the time doenst even use latest technology but charges premium prices, in the end having it build or doing it your self you will have the latest technology and best technology for your money and will have an overall better pc, also a clean install of windows runs much faster than any pre built because they put stupid pointless software preloaded onto your pc to keep production costs down

This pretty much sums it up. Im looking into a MX13 since my desktop weighs a ton since I put water in it.

alienware laptops are worth the money. their desktop machines are not.

If you want to purchase a desktop machine, either build your own or check out ibuypower.

Id buy Asus over aleinware laptops, they have wonderful gameing laptops and an unbeatble warrenty,

Desktops i recommend always building having someone building ibuypower has a shady past ur about 50/50 on getting a working pc and also about 50/50 chance they will even give a crap about ur none working pc if u contact them, unless u live in California were u can physically go to the mains tore slam teh broken computer on the counter and demand it be fixed ur at their mercy

Want to blow your money on something crazy? Probably things you could change with this set up. Not everything was available that I wanted XD some was out of stock. As far as mouse and keyboard, that's on your own hands. I prefer Razer over Logitech since they feel nice to my hands. I have boxing knuckles so my mouse feels really nice on that :D I did forget a sound card :( but that's another ~80-120ish and I don't know what kind of headset you'd like ^_^

That Geekbox looks mighty tasty..
If you're unable to build your own computer due to time or knowledge (Cheapest route) than only go with reputable builders. I haven't heard of geekbox but snooping around, they look like pro's.
I've heard good stuff from Digital Storm as well.

I've heard bad things from ibuypower and cyberpowerpc is better, but still so so.
Like I said if you can't due to time or knowledge (Though we have a guide on here by Phobus, and we probably have a good 100 minimum knowledgeable people who could help.) you do have better options rather than Alienware! XD

I'm a pro. You could send parts to me, and I could ship the final product to you. :D

It's pretty intense I must say. First case that I like that's white.. :D

Yeah Alienware before Dell was a computer company that you could go to and buy something pretty good. But then again, big companies play Pac man with smaller companies..

Looking into Digitalstorm they have some pretty beastly builds, I kinda like the boxy one with the dual Xeon. Just sayin' ^_^

Blue Stealth has good information.

I also liked the comment about Dell owning Alienware. Sadly this is true, and in the last 2 years the quality of Alienware products has dropped considerably. Dell has cheeped out on parts and raised costs.

If I were going to get a laptop, it would be because I am going to be portable, which is why I wouldn't get an Asus gaming laptop haha.

If I were wanting to play games in the future though I would buy a desktop. iBuyPower makes great stuff.

He still hasn't posted in here saying what he wants? XD

I find it funny that I don't see ibuypower or cyberpowerpc ads in my computer magazines anymore.. wonder why? >:D hahaha
