I've heard a lot of things (heh) about how The Thing (82') was a unique horror experience and never got around to watching it. After I see this (around Halloween) It'll give me a good chance to watch the original.

Also, the ad campaign as been pumping that its the same producers from "Dawn Of The Dead", the 2004 one, not the 70s one. Which could either be good or make no difference whatsoever.

I don't mean to sound like a hater but I can't stand it when someone tries to remake a classic that was already great to begin with. For the younger generation that never saw the original, it will be good. For the older generation that grew up with this movie(me) it will be a lesser movie in every way, except the visuals.

Same thing with the new Total Recall remake. I LOVE that movie and can't understand how someone could be so stupid as to think they could make it any better.

It's a prequel, not a remake. But yeah, I totally agree with the Total Recall remake.

I understand what you are saying and agree. However, movies are just made differently now than they were back in the 80's and 90's, and were for a difference audience. There are good concepts from movies back in the day that when re-watched don't carry the same weight or attention span for today's younger audience as it did for us. You have to appreciate that fact, that all the reboots are NOT made for "you" and "me".

They are made to re-live and re-imagine great movies to match today's movie making style and advertise to today's audience. We had our turn, and I'm sure the older folks can understand that kids/teens today would not watch and enjoy movies like we did like the original Thing, or Alien for example. The epileptic nightmare of flashing lights that is the original Alien will shock you when you re-watch it. It's just different movie making.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not thrilled with all the reboots and remakes, but whatever. You don't have to like it, you don't even have to watch it, but it's not being made for us, we can just go back and watch the original, while today's audiences watches theirs :)

/end rant.

-edit- Drudge Dredd remake with Karl Urban - discuss..

I have to admit though, Planet of the Apes look fantastic!! And thats a prequel of a classic.

However, Total Recall wasn't exactly following the original source (just made into an action sci-fi film starring the former governor of California). The remake has been said it will.
