New Monitor

Looking to get a new monitor 23'' and just wondering what most of you are using as far as brand and if you have been happy with them or what you would recommend.

I already have 1 23" and its by LG and frankly I hate it. It uses those thermal touch buttons for the menu screen which seems to activate on its own sometimes and never respondeds to my fingers when trying to use it.

I have heard that some of the best monitors out there are made by Samsung, Acer, NEC, Asus, Viewsonic and Dell.

Was just wondering if any of yall have one of these brands and what you think of them. Would like to keep the price under $300

Dont most monitors now come with both HDMI and DVI? But currently I use DVI.
No built in speakers
LED Backlight... Not sure what difference this makes but maybe?
USB Hub not needed.

I would use it for gaming mostly.

Dell U2311 or NEC EAW232WMI for 23in IPS panels

Dell just released the U2412M soon -- 16x10 24in IPS

HP zr24w's aren't bad either.

I've heard good things from Samsung, though I've never used them.
That monitor looks great.

Another one would be this ASUS, even though it's cheaper, it has speakers
(it's optional to use them).

For ~$300 you can get an IPS monitor, which has vastly superior color uniformity and viewing angles. Do a little research. LED/CFL doesn't really make any difference, IPS vs. TN vs. PVA, etc. makes all the difference in the world.

I highly doubt he needs something like an IPS monitor for simply gaming.

Although I would agree with you if he was doing any type of graphical editing.
It's a waste of money not using something to the fullest of its abilities.

I've got an ASUS 23.5" monitor, with those stupid thermal buttons. The power button works fine for me, but I don't even try to use the others, so I can't really formulate a good opinion for that.

It's very flat, and pretty light. I dual-screen it with a smaller 17-19" (can't remember), but I barely use it.

This feels like the "if we can't go more than 65, why do you need a car that does 200" argument.

IPS will look better to almost anyone, the colors in games matter too.
