Internet problems

Ever since i got this new computer my whole network has been spiking like crazy. I sit in vent and see my ping go from 20ms to 500ms. I'm not really sure whats going on.

Any ideas if it's my router or computer dropping the connection? Other people in the house also report they get spikes when my computer is connected in.

I've been having something similar past few days. I don't have the fastest internet speed.

I believe it's my router. But my house mates aren't sure if that's it. Though it's not when my computer is on specifically. With all 3 of us on, we do see a bit of a hit to our pings.

I'm sure you've tried to see if you're downloading anything. I went into my Task Manager and looked around to see if their was anything running that shouldn't. I recognized about 99% of it. The 1% was a few things that something installed. Like weather bug and what not. So I uninstalled that and so far so good. Not sure if that helped but just telling my own experience with something similar.

That's mine, so i would think i shouldn't spike really unless it was the ISP having problems on their end. It's stopped right now after we left the modem and router off for a bit.

Is there a certain time when you have these internet spikes? For example, does it get really slow around 6 or 7 PM? or really fast around noon? Is there any kind of pattern?


Here's mine, and it's like that most of the time.

what you can try to do is:
1. go to the start button and type run
2. type: "cmd" and press enter
3. type ping -t <router ip>
do this for 5/10 minuts and press "ctrl + c". if you have drops, it is your pc or router. if its stable than you must consider the following options:
1. power off the router and modem(if you have that)
2. power on the modem and wait 2 minuts
3. power on the router and wait a minut
4. go to start button -> run -> cmd -> enter
5. type: "ping -t google.com"
do this for 5/10 minuts and press "ctrl + c". if this is stable that the problem is fixed otherwise report it here, that we shall look at other solutions.
if it is by your pc router connection, try to restart your router.

Dang your upload speed is so much better then mine compared to the Download/Upload speed.

I did this last night except without going to the run -> cmd thing. It seems to be stable, but once it starts going again ill do it again and post what i find.
