I am so glad you found this piece, it is amazing. This really clears up a lot of things concerning the differences between the butterfly knife and other melee weapons. If only everyone who plays TF2 reads this article, there will be much more understanding about backstab mechanics, and less raging.

I already understood that it was all about the attacker's screen, but it nice to have an explanation for other people.

Interestingly enough, the backburner works the same way, except instead of a 180 degree window, it's 90: this means that they can only be looking 45 degrees away in either direction to take crits.
