Thanks to Gameinformer's latest issuse. I discovered this amazing new game due to be released in Spring 2012. Bethesda Softworks (Developers of Elder Scrolls, Brink, Rage, etc.) and Arkane Studios (Publishers of games like Bioshock 2) have come together to create this First-Person Stealth/Action game.
Taking place in a 17th Century London city called Dunwall, the entire island is shut off from the rest of the world by a massive monster-infested ocean. You play as Corvo, a specially trained assassin/ninja, who has been framed for the murder of the Empress. Fleeing from those that pursue him, Corvo seeks refuge with the opposition movement living within the city. They offer him protection and much more, so long as he uses his talents for their own gain.
What talents you may ask? Corvo utlizes a variety of stealth tactics and weapons. From walking on carpets to muffle your footsteps, to tossing daggers at guards from the shadows, the possibilities become nearly endless.
You even have access to plenty of gadgets, tools, and traps to assist you.
On top of all that, Corvo was touched by the mysterious and dark being known as the Outsider. From that contact, he develops unique special powers. Not spells exactly, but fairly close. You can freeze time, briefly possess animals and people, call a swarm of rats from the dark to attack enemies (and yourself if you're not careful), and so on. An example that was described purely amazed me.
Corvo turns a corner to meet face to face with a surprised gaurd. The gaurd recovers quickly and opens fire on the player. Corvo quickly freezes time to avoid getting killed and silently assesses the situation. He then Possesses the gaurd and walks him in front of the frozen projectile. You can guess what happens next.
The game looks beautiful, and looks like it plays just as beautifully. The combination of stealth, magic, and action blend wonderfully together. My description of this game does it no wonder of how amazing it looks. Knowing how Bethesda's games look, I personally cannot wait for this game to be released.
Here's the link to the Gameinformer site with the ad. Not sure if any details are on the site, but hopefully more will be released later!
