Hello, everyone. I've been noticing lately that people don't actually know when to call for medic. Well, I have a few tips. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE TIPS, DON'T JUST SKIM. And PLEASE, take it seriously.
1. Call for medic when you are hurt.
2. Call for medic when you are about to be hurt.
3. If you follow rule #2, when the medic is healing you, go kill the people that would have hurt you. DON'T JUST STAND THERE.
4. Call for medic if you can be a helpful medic buddy (and PLEASE THINK about if you can be helpful before you do.)
5. If you see a medic in trouble, help him. People don't realize just how helpful medics are.
6. DON'T call for medic when there are no medics. INSTEAD, when you die, become a medic and help out.
7. When you call for medic, get to a safe place and stand still. DON'T run around in circles in the middle of a battle. Sometimes, it's very hard to aim and heal you with the medic gun when you run in circles and endanger the medic in the field. This is especially for scouts, but everyone should follow it.
8. If you are a medic and there are a group of players in trouble, instead of individually healing them one by one while many of them die, try using the Amputator. I find it's taunt to be extremely useful.
9. In case you don't know who can be a great medic buddy, here's a list:
HEAVIES; they provide a good human shield, while also having a lot of health so they stay alive for a long time.
PYROS; they provide a lot of damage with the flame thrower, and are faster, to get to the point/ intelligence quicker.
DEMOS; they are excellent for tough to reach spots, plus they have great melee weapons if the medic is in trouble close up.
SOLDIERS; they are good with sentries if they're being healed by a medic (like the demo), plus they are can rocket jump and give the medic more Ubercharge (like the demo).
10. DON'T call for medic if you just came out of spawn, and you see a medic healing a heavy because he's a good medic buddy, but you think you can be better. He already has a heavy, he doesn't need another.
11. DON'T just spam the medic button for no reason. I can't tell you how annoying this is. We see countless little medic balloons pop up, and yours is distracting us from the balloon of someone who ACTUALLY NEEDS THE MEDIC.
12. Never be afraid to call for medic if you see he's healing someone and you still have more than half of your health. UNLESS they are healing a lot of people who have almost no health.
13. DON'T call for medic if you are standing, sitting, squating, or are just plain are doing anything at all; next to a dispenser or a cabinet.
14. You can call for medic if you are on fire, and most people do. Just remember that if they're healing people who truly need it, and your health won't suffer that badly from the fire, please don't distract the medic.
15. If you see a medic who has a medic buddy and you truly need the medic, go ahead and call for medic. If they are a good medic, they will stop medigunning the medic buddy and heal you.
16. If you call for medic, and don't see one right away, DON'T TAKE THE HEALTH PACK. Same for if you are being healed. Yes, medics can heal themselves, but it isn't instant; so don't take the health pack unless no medic shows up for, let's say, 15 seconds. Especially if you and/ or your medic is on fire.
17. If you are a pyro, ALWAYS put out a burning medic. Put out all players, but the medic is top priority. Once he is out, he can help put out the other players more effectively.
18. Soldiers and Demomen: you can use the overheal buff to rocket / sticky jump into tough to reach spots. If you plan to do this and want the buff, please inform your medic what you're up to, so he doesn't just lose someone he thought he could use to get into the enemy's territory.
19. Heavies: if you have the GRU's (Gloves of Running Urgently) it would be wise to only use them when a medic is healing you. Please tell a nearby medic that you plan to GRU your way to a point, and they'd probably be happy to help.
20. In the advanced option menu, you can enable an option that tells you when team mates are low on health. I'd recommend somewhere near the middle, but low, so you don't have constant health ballons popping up and you don't go on wild goose chases for a player who isn't hurt.
21. Periodically check behind and near your medic. Learn his name. Your medic will thank you (at least in his head) if you do. If you see a spy, KILL HIM. If you learn your medic's name and you notice he gets backstabbed, KILL THE SPY.
22. If you are a medic, don't let a friendly who you found in need of a medic on the battlefield get behind you. HE COULD BE A SPY. BUT, if he presses the mic key and a chat bubble pops up above his head, he is not a spy.
23. If you are a medic, and you see an obvious spy near your partner, don't be afraid to whip out your syringe gun and kill him. Your partner will thank you (at least in his head) if you do. Then, return to your duty of healing him.
If you think of anything i missed, please write it in the comments.
