Apathetic Ads: What has advertisement come to?

Ads. No one likes them, and when would we ever? Unless of course it was an ad for something we liked ( Mac, Windows, slim Jims, cats, etc). And while this fact holds true, that no one likes ads generally, does that mean they should crap out on their design, their point?

As shown in the above picture of my lovely screen, you see that this ad makes absolutely no sense. It's supposed to convey that people should want to download (and most likely acquire a virus) and use customizable pointers to make their CPU experience more enjoyable. But then, obviously noted, there is a picture of a vulture lurking behind these supposedly cute and wanted pointers. WTF.

WHAT is this ad trying to tell me? I have no idea. Is it telling me that I should use Vultures as my background? That if I download these pointers, I will help vultures? Or that perhaps Vultures also enjoy using these pointers on THEIR computer?! There is no telling. This isn't the only ad seen floating around with an obtuse message. Sometimes, ads inform you that you've won something, but then you have no idea what. In turn, making you confused and pretty sure that ads serve no real purpose except to take space up on the web page you are perusing and give you mysterious viruses.

It's even gotten to the point that ads know where you live, totally making you feel invaded and wondering if someone is watching you sleep at night. Video ads have also appeared. Their own purpose: To scare the living CRAP out of you while you are busy with something and not paying attention. (Well, thats at least the only purpose they've served in MY life anyway.)

In closing, internet ads are dumb and I wish, if they must exist, that they would make more design wise and be less nonsensical seeing as I have to see them when surfing the interwebz.

And shut up, I know that Firefox has ad-blocker. I don't care. Firefox sucks.

This is a late night thread, brought to you by LadyFace: Does she ever shut up?

:D

I hate those ads about "Dating Russian Girls" like really? They are going to date me while I am in CA. Ugh so annoying I see them on almost all the sites I go to. How do they even know I m a dude, what if I m a girl, o.O

The types of sites that serve those ads are almost exclusively visited by dudes. ;)

@Ladyface: as for the location, that's only but a small part that advertisers know about "you".

I personally think that a pretty rainbow cursor would go nice with your bright pink minimize/restore/close buttons and purple forward/back/home buttons.

On a side note, I wonder how many people typed her name into Facebook after seeing the tab.

You are visitor number 1.000.000 you were drawn at <show os time script here>, this is not a joke claim your prize now!

The worst for ads is google. If you use G-mail they use keywords FROM THE E-MAIL to give you an ad. Meaning that Google is reading all of your e-mails. How awesome is that?

It's clearly stated in their terms of service that they index your emails. Everybody does this, otherwise email search would be useless. But then it's also clearly stated that they will use this information to display relevant ads to you. It's not like it's a secret or anything.

You should read your emails, they're piling up.

Tell me how to live my life ONE MORE TIME.

O.o Food for thought. I wondered if I should have closed it at the time, but then I figured it was no big deal because there's a bazillion Lauren Larue's that come up in the search. And here I was, thinking I had an original name :/

Lol.
