Quake, Rage, Fallout & Skyrim items coming to tf2!!

So... what you're saying is that because Valve is rich and you are poor, they should just give you everything for free? That's no different than the bums on the street that hit me up for money every week.
While agree with the point you are trying to make I would argue that "bums" that need money are a vastly different situation than PBJ wanting free games and comparing them is kind of sad.
Valve is a company. They are in it to make money, and they've found a business model that works quite well for them at the moment. So what if they're using their most popular game in years to promote other games? It's a brilliant idea and I applaud them for it. As somebody else pointed out, these promo items are sometimes just the push that somebody needs to pre-order a game that they are already interested in. Or it's the push that somebody may need to order a game on Steam instead of purchasing it elsewhere. As far as I know, none of these promo items that you get for purchasing other games even have added effects, meaning they play just like the original items they are replacing.

Arguably the Original does. Though it will presumably be craftable along with the rest.

If you want to complain about not having money to buy games so that you can get these promo items, my only answer to you is: get a job. Just remember, we're talking about TF2 here and not Pokemon. You don't have to "catch them all."

And on a more related note: does the pip-boy look different on the Engineer's model? The only difference that I could tell from the TF2 wiki was that your build menus were green. Anybody got a better screenshot?

Wait, they're going to be craftable?

Nevermind.

To people like PJB who are angry because they're young and don't have an accurate grasp of fairness and business, and who generally think they're owed something .... I say this:

So what if you don't have a credit card yet. Guess what, there are thousands of places on the internet you can't buy things from yet. Is every storefront on the internet evil to you because they hide all their wares behind that pesky payment system?

Valve is easily one of the most fair, transparent, and honest companies out there. The idea that they're evil because they make you pay for something that you want and can't currently have is ridiculous. I know it's a hard concept to grasp with your limited world experience, but there are people out there, like myself, who see something they want and are happy and able to pay for it.

Valve doesn't do anything with their fingers crossed. They test something out, and keep what works. You think they would still have the Mannconomy if no one bought anything? Quite the opposite. The Mannconomy was SO successful, Valve was able to take one of your favorite games and make it completely FREE. You already bought it so you don't give a damn right? In one ear out the other that they made one of the best multiplayer FPS's free forever. It rejuvenated the community and gave TF2 longer life, but all you care about is what do YOU get for already buying the game.

Most promo items become droppable or craftable . That's not good enough for you right? Because that takes time. You're super busy, you don't have time to get the items for free. You'd rather spend that time complaining about how others pay to get them instantly. Stupid people and their money. Everything should be free!

Let's forget for a moment that Valve pays huge checks to everyday people who make items for the game. Your argument comes down to the fact that Valve and its creative community make all this great stuff you want, and you don't want to pay for it. Valve giving you the game for free isn't enough, you want everything for free. Stop me if I'm wrong. You think that Valve owes you everything and you don't need to give back anything.

And the idea that because they're already successful, by creating some of the greatest PC games ever made, that they should give back MORE to you? Are you serious? Give back more to the world? Sorry but you're spoiled rotten. Wake the hell up.

Thank you for articulating that so well.

Valve has had many opportunities to make the game pay to win and they haven't taken them. Sure, they did have set hats which were arguably a mistake but they appear to have acknowledged it. If Valve made weapons with unique stats unavailable to people who didn't wish to pay more I would begin to see your point but at present I think Valve has gone about it rather elegantly.

I got a hat, but even without that, I was happy. It DID bring new people in, and my IRL friends can play with me now.

At the time of the original post, I was under the impression these ones wouldn't be.

Let's forget for a moment that Valve pays huge checks to everyday people who make items for the game. I bought the game, and yes, I'd like to continue to have free "updates". That's essentially what this is. However, Valve is trying to make some more money. Personally, I'm under the impression this money is going to line the big guys' pockets, and less to developing new games and paying the people who actually do the graphic designing. Maybe I'm wrong. Its just the first thing that popped into my head. I never even tried starting a debate. I just put down my thoughts after reading.

Give back more to the world?

Look at Bill Gates. He, granted, made a whole OS, but I'm sure Gabe and the other top members at Valve could be doing more with their own money (not raising money, THEIR money) to help the homeless, jobless, and those affected by disasters.

Also, what's this about being spoiled rotten? Yes, I'm bothered by the fact that my parents don't let me buy many games at all these days, and I wish I had my own credit card, but what do you expect? Me to go along with it all happy and cheery, oh yay, new items to pay for? No, I'm going to have a comment on it. I'm just pointing out that in your infinite wisdom you managed to overlook the fact that maybe I'm the opposite of spoiled. I don't get online games/items that cost money very often, and, yes, I DO wish I got all this stuff free, but that isn't going to happen in this world.

Hell, I'll even agree that Valve is a great company. THEY ARE. But, I wish I had some sort of way to get these items without paying. IT IS that being 14 and not having a credit card thing. I'll try not to whine about it too much. Its just a bad situation for me and other people my age that don't have parents that they them buy anything, anytime.
