EA offers games, including Battlefield 3, to all major digital download sites. Gamers can pre-order Battlefield 3 at Origin.com as well as over 100 digital retailers worldwide. EA offers games to all major download services. Unfortunately, Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content. No other download service has adopted these practices.

We are intent on providing Battlefield 3 players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers. We hope to work out an agreement where Steam can carry Battlefield 3; meanwhile, gamers can pick from the more than 100 digital retailers listed at http://www.battlefield.com/digitaldownload, or go to http://www.origin.com.

Seems the way they want to provide content to their consumers isn't allowed by steam... people are over-reacting over this lul. Buy it offa digital store... add it to steam.. not that big of a deal -.-

Exactly...basically Steam wants all DLC of a game sold through steam so they they get some royalties. But EA wants to sell DLC through the actual game and that is the conflict.
 
This will make the DLC's cheaper in the long run and that's what people aren't getting.... Just add it as a non-steam game and be done with it.

My post on that thread:

Just buy the game off of another digital retailer... add the game to steam using the non-steam game option.


It really isn't that hard guys.


If you are willing to boycott a game over having to manually add it to steam then you are definitely going to miss out and you probably didn't want it all that bad to begin with.


Not to mention the reasoning behind arguing about this is also rediculous. It's EA's game and in the end they will do with it what they please. They have every right to reep the benefit of a game that THEY produced.

I <3 steam, but it wont make me cry not to have it exactly from them.

Just grow up and pick a different retailer. I won't be using origin b/c I won't have to. Add non-steam game ftw."
 
From what I've been reading from other sites, BF3 will be ON steam, just after it releases. Also EA is just making a fluster about Steam in general to help move more people over to Origin.

Either way, you'll no doubt have to go through Origin to play it, regardless of where you buy it.
 
As a company, I support EA's right to do this. As a consumer, I think it's a stupid idea.
 
Well I'll be honest with you guys... if EA keeps making hard for people to buy this game... they only will contribute to 2 things... 1st the piracy of this game will be major... 2nd closing the options for all the players that are not in the US to buy the game from Steam will drop the sales very hard, I won't buy this game in Euros on the Origin store... also I can't buy it from any other digital site... so that's closing my possibilities to buy this game...

GREAT EA!! YOU ARE SCREWING MY WORLD...

Stupids corporations are destroying the world...

you should blame valve. they started pull games which made by EA.

when it release NA 25 AuS 26 EU 27
 
Pfft.. this doesn't make it harder to get the game at all.. there's hundreds of reputable retailers in the digital world... just pick one.

-_- I tried them ALL! none of them let me buy the game :D :facewall:

At the checkout "sorry the game you're trying to buy is not available in your region"

@Sailor I'll blame EA... why? they are applying this policy: TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT, or you use Origin or you can't play this game
 
P3N/.BOXER, is there any way somebody in a region other than yours could buy it then give you the activation key and you pay them for that? OR will it just say that it's region-locked and you're not able to bypass that in any manner?

This is the only part of your post that I disagree with. I dont think it will make DLC cheaper, it will just mean that more of the money we spend on that DLC will go right back to EA's pockets. My not too cynical side is hoping this means they will have more money to put into post-release support and patching.

Anyways, my only two real complaints about origin so far are: 1. Its a steam clone. I already have 60 or so games in my steam library, and I would prefer not to have to use another almost identical service when I could just keep everything in the same place. 2. The potential that I will not be able to redownload my games after the 1 year period after purchase has ended. Of course, checking the origin options, you can back up your install files.

With all that said, after reading that it will not be coming to steam, I went ahead and pre-ordered on origin earlier today (the bonus alpha deal didnt hurt either).
 
Theres bestbuy digital downloader. No idea how it is just another option other than origin.
 
I am not a fan of Origin, although I know EA isn't just going to give it up. I want all my games in one place, I want Steam to track my hours, and yes, I'm picky.

However, I'm hoping maybe with some REAL competition out there, Steam will up the ante and add some of the better features that Origin has into their own product.

I also agree with Believer. I realize EA has the right to do this, yet I think they're screwing the people who don't agree with them. Moral of the story: wait until after release for the price drop then buy + profit.

Having 100 digital distributors is making it hard to buy the game? How?!

You will use Origin to download BF3. After that, just add it to Steam and start it through Steam. That's what I did with BC2. Origin doesn't have to be running for me to play BC2 and I assume it'll be the same for BF3.

I wouldnt go so far as to assume that. I mean, I got Dead Space 2 for free with my preorder, and I can run it outside of origin, which is great.

However, I was a part of the BF3 alpha, and with the alpha, origin needed to be running, in fact, trying to launch the game without origin running would launch origin for you.

Of course, its possible they just did that since it was an alpha and they wanted to keep as tight control over it as possible.

Either way, as I said, I already ordered it through origin and I do not regret it, I would have just preferred to keep everything together through steam.
