DC Tap question

If I wanted to lower my cable modem's upstream power level would I want more or less db loss? For instance, if I connected my modem to a DC Tap, would I want to put it on the out end (1db loss) or the tap end (6~db loss)?

Why do you need to lower your cable modems power level, if you don't mind me asking.

Usually the goal is to lower your db loss and increase the power level, which in turn results in higher line speeds and better quality.
