My car (2001 Toyota Solara V6) has been acting up, so I took it to a few places to get it looked at. Of these places, they all came to the same conclusion; the Catalytic Converter is about dead :(
Got an average quote of $1,000 to replace it, but that's 1k I dont have at the moment.

What I want to know, is are there any short term / temporary solution I can use until I get the 1k? Used parts? A cheap fix? anything really. Just need it to hold out for about 2 months, as I have a possible job lined up at the end of august.

Catalytic Converters take the exhaust from your engine and take most of the toxins out of the exhaust and passes it through to exhaust pipe. My friend got a brand new catalytic converter for like $80 and had it installed into his car for like $150. I think you might be getting ripped off. You should be able to get a new one on there for less than $300. Go to a muffler shop and not your cars dealer. Should be a place called like discount muffler or something around where you live, try them before blowing that much money.

Bokkchoi is correct.

First go online to autozone (or similar) and see how much one cost (will probably be different brands/prices).

then you can start to figure out just how much you are being charged just in labor.
