The online social networks have really taken a big toll in personal and business lives today. I had a friend who thought it was alright to post things on her facebook about how she had been partying and drinking underage and what not so I figured this was appropriate. The reason I am posting this is simply to put the word out there that what ever you put on twitter, facebook, or any other online social network has its consequences. Whether they be good or bad, there are repercussions for anything that you do in this world. And if you guys have a couple of minutes to spare I'd like you to read this article that I found and showed my friend. If you don't, I will quote a couple of the main points here in this article.

Well in fact, whether you like it or not, things on the web (even things you think are private) can be seen quite easily by just about everyone – including potential employers. According to U of O PR professor Kelli Matthews, over 70% of employers use Facebook as a background check for job candidates.

As a result, the image you display on your facebook page is the foundation of your personal brand.

The way an individual student portrays themselves online is paramount to their potential careers – especially for students in the journalism school, where nearly everything you do is online.

As a group, we will be learning how students can use technology to their advantage, and also, unfortunately to their detriment.

There is a fine line to having a personality and showing potential employers you are a serious candidate for the job you desire.

I think this article makes my point clear and true. Be careful what you put out there for everyone to see. Its not worth ruining your future because of a simple picture or comment made.

It's not about not posting "personal" things because it's "dangerous" and "unsafe" it's about having common sense and not being a complete idiot. Who adds their boss of FB anyway? And then to rant about him in public unknowingly he's going to obviously see it... she deserved to be fired. I'm sure most people don't have a problem with this. Good post though

Basically, if you don't want the possibility of ANYONE knowing something, NEVER write it anywhere, photograph it or video it. Common sense and I just laugh when stuff like this happens.

And I can't believe some people actually think that doing personal stuff on a company computer, phone or pad is private. Think again genious, you don't own the equipment so always assume it's being monitored by the owner.
