First Day of College

Plus its stressful cause at home I'm getting badgered to get a job

Apply for a job at the campus bar, easy money and a great way to meet people. A year and a half as a bartender and I knew the whole campus. Plus it's a great way to meet girlies.

You need to make small talk with classmates, and get to know some people. I just graduated, and met some great friends throughout the process. Stick with it man.

Good advice. Other good jobs to get would be mailroom, office, or if you like to, TA (Teaching Assistant). I remember my first day in college. Me and my best friend were roommates, but the first week was orientation week so there were about 12,000 freshmen students all there, organized by residence halls. And there were 8-12 students per group led by a team leader(sophomore or higher). The greatest chance to meet people and make lifelong friends is the first two three weeks of a new school year, when everyone's trying to meet other people and figure out who's who (especially who's the smart people in class so you know who you can ask for help with your homework).

Have fun, be yourself, and talk to people. It will be the best years of your life.

I started college 11 years ago this month. My freshman year was the best year of college. My freshman year was the year most filled with drama as well.

The first month was a whirlwind of trying to figure out which crowd I would be in. I could reinvent myself and shed all of those stereotypes from high school. Maybe I was a drunk womanizer? Maybe a scholar? Maybe I was still a computer nerd who had a 6 foot 120lb frame? 3 weeks into school Counterstrike beta 0.6 hit the campus... yup I was still a computer nerd. Oh well, I could interact with that crowd and thrive. Running lan parties in the student center... check. Going to bed @ 4 AM after Diablo 2 raids before a 7 AM Calculus 2 class... check. Wondering why the local Counterstrike server was not a full blown e-harmony... check. Going on a 9 hour road trip to at an all you can eat restaurant and listening to essential tunes... check.

More important questions that arose: Was my roommate satan's spawn? What is the perfect political system? (during the 2000 election) Why does the system keep the man down? Is pizza, hamburgers, and chicken fried steak a normal lunch? Is ultimate frisbee really the ultimate?

I remember more from my freshman year than all other years combined. (sorry wife that I met in 3rd year :O). I had more almost violent arguments over the douchiness of Dave Mathews Band my freshman year :cursing:. I learned the necessary skill of table tennis my freshman year. I eventually made the 5 best friends of my life (excluding the de-facto wife ) during my freshman year.

Stick it out and be yourself. Quit worrying about other's looks. They really don't mean much. Enjoy the heck out of the best time of your life.

Nosh
