I play medic alot, and have pretty much learned the ins and outs of the class. Im still not sure if i'm ready for the competitive scene. (I really really really want to compete.)

Are there any groups in eGO or other clans that have teams of players who have just entered the competitive scene? Or am I better off forming my own team?

If I may be so kind, I suggest you read this thread here. It's all about the new TF2 Competitive team that the TF2 division is starting up.

Go practice on tf2lobby and get some experience before you jump into the crazy world that is competitive tf2.

Was just about to say that, practice in tf2 lobby in first it will be hard but once you get into it it will be easyer a lot

Type out everything here what you think a medic should do and we can get you up to speed in comp for medics.

a medic needs to:

firstly, keep his team alive (make sure pyros dont make mincemeat out of them)
Provide strategic ubers that aid pushes
Stick with a pocket that is capable of protecting him (hard to find in pubs)
Run the team and decide when to push and pull back
be an extra pair of eyes (your not shooting, so you often have a clearer view of combat)

Too much stuff probably for your first time comp. I suggest finding a clan of people you play with a lot so you're comfortable with them. Then just healing and popping ubers when you think it's good. Don't worry about strategic pushes or anything until you have experience on what works. Also I recommend giving the most experienced competitive member leadership and have him make the calls.

An important things for medics is to really scream at your teammates to not run you up so much if your team is in a bad position.

Lastly, once you have some experience with medic you can calculate medic percentages of the enemy team so you know whether you can push or hold.
It takes 40 secs for uber and 30 secs for kritz. 2.5% uber build rate per second for uber. If the medic dies tell your team to always call it. Aim to keep the uber percentages within ~5% to know if you can uber and kill their medic if their medic plays up at around 90%.

Mainly the lower levels of competitive play relies on just deathmatch and whether or not your team can kill their team. No strategy or teammwork just slightly more organized killing. Find a group and work with them.
