Just started playing just to fool around until school starts and I have a few questions about the game. What are some tips you guys can give me to help me get started to start me off on a good foot?

Another thing I was wondering is when it comes to attacking, should I focus on a certain skill (Strength, Defense, Attack) or do the shared xp attack choice? I want to have decent armor and a decent weapon so I have been using that. Thanks!

Controlled xp is fine.

A really good place to start off training is Beefy Bill's cow field.

Just go a bit north of Lumbridge castle to find it. Kill the cows ,pick up the cow hides and give them to beefy bill who banks them for you... you can sell them later to make some decent cash.

When you are combat level 15, switch to another animal to train on. This page should be useful.

Even though thats not possible. That money will last a long time for somone just starting, because everything you could possibly need like iron armour or weapons is really cheap.

I got like 4k off of doing those tasks and stuff and bought full steel armor and a steel longsword.

My attack, strength and defense are about level 6ish right now, but i've also been making armor and mining and such.

My combat level is like 12ish, should I still be training on cows?

And also, My mining is like 20 and I went to mine iron ore because I read online that iron ore is the fastest way to level up, the only problem is that every spot for iron is filled with players that can mine 10x faster than me. What do I do?

i would suggest training on cows until your lvl 40 in the combat skills, ive been playing since the game was released. The way the exp system works, you actually get exp from the damage you deal not from killing the enemy.
