Hey guys,
I look forward to writing this every year, and I always love reading similar posts. I like to tell a little bit about my time in the clan. I'm writing a book here so bear with me.
Young Spitfire'd loved Day of Defeat. He played regularly on the 9th Rangers 24/7 Kalt server. It was a great time and he met and knew great people. Sadly, the server disappeared one day never to be seen again (as far as I know).
While on my journey to find a good server to play on, I became bothered at the trends I saw in online gaming. People swore all the time, sometimes using a swear word as every word in their sentences. People were racist and disrespectful to each other. It took away from a lot of the fun.
I found eGO's 24/7 Kalt server one day. If you know our rules and how we do things you'll understand why I loved it. People were friendly, respectful and it was a fun environment to be a part of. After playing on it for a month or two, I joined up. I wanted to be a part of this community. I didn't even care if I got promoted or not, I just loved that I had found a gaming home.
For those that may not know it, eGO was only in Day of Defeat at that time. Each Day of Defeat server had a "clan house" that had that server as their "home" server, much in the same way we have our "home divisions" now. I was a proud Sewer Rat.
Then something happened. The leadership of the Sewer Rats split away and made a splinter clan. I was torn. They were my friends that I played with every day, some all the way back from that 9th Rangers server. They were doing their own thing and I tried to be a part of it, but at the same time I was hooked on TF2 (without hats if you can imagine that) and kept active in our eGO servers because I couldn't dream of playing it anywhere else.
I tried to ride the fence and be a part of both communities. I enjoyed my friends but eGO was my home, without it I wouldn't even have a gaming community. When I got promoted I had to make a choice.
I chose eGO. I knew I could still visit my friends if I really wanted to, but eGO was my home and my gaming community. I planned to stay with them as long as possible.
So here I am. 4 years to the day I joined. eGO has grown incredibly in ways I never imagined it would. The community feels very much like a family. Even though I cannot be nearly as active as I was I still feel like I'm at "home" when I join one of our servers or log into Ventrilo.
It has been my pleasure and honor to be a part of this community this long, and I plan to remain a part of it for many, many more years. Thank you eGO for everything that you are, and thank you each member for all you do to make it what it is, even if I haven't met you or played with you.
I hope you newer members are inspired. You can contribute just as much to this community as anyone else in the clan. I hope you realize that it isn't about the promotions and the admin powers, it's about being a family and contributing to a punk free environment.
So don't be a stranger. Feel free to say hi. The community here is what I am all about. Being older than most of you, some will even testify that I consider myself the "big brother" of eGO. Not in the sense that I'm always watching 1984 style, but in the sense that I am always here to talk and get to know people. It's part of who I am.
