Bad Company 2 [Crashing]

Hi everyone,

Ok so I basically have BC2, and I love the game, but I can never play it for more than a few minutes before it suddenly CRASHES completely to the point where I have to shutdown and turn my pc back on.

Computer Specification

CPU: Intel 2 Quad CPU - Q9400 @ 2.66GHZ
Memory: 4GB Ram
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4850

I'm playing the game windowed with graphics set as max low (even though when settings are high, it still runs fine, but still crashes). The game runs perfectly when I'm actually playing, it just for some reason decides to crash up. This is the only game I have that it happens to, I can play CSS, DOD:S, TF2 and Brink perfectly fine without any crashes. Tried re-installing..etc.

Will I need a new graphics card?

do you have a program like afterburner or something that has custom fan profiles or for overclocking? Punkbuster will cause crashes a lot when those programs are running. That is a common issue.

Nope, straight up windows 7 fresh install. Just want to make it clear, the entire system crashes where the last sound played is looped and the screen freezes - so a force restart needs to be made.

ive had the same problem before... some things to try are lower to sound quality/ in settings (documents-bfbc2) change speakers from 2 or whatever to 0... change shadows to low...lower resolution...and ive read about some people buying like a 15 dollar usb headphone jack and running the sound of that or getting a sound card... hope this helps...but like stated above ^^^^ this is a very common problem..also try different drivers

Make sure Windows 7 is up to date and you have latest chipset drivers for your mobo, graphics card etc.

There's a beta patch that came out for BC2 just in the last couple of days. It's supposed to address repeated crashes as well as a few other things. There's a download link in the BC2 section of the EA forums.

Do you have a Asus xonar sound card? It will also crash if you have the "GX" option on. Which is EAX emulation.

Oh also you should update punkbuster manually. It will fix some crashes as well.

Just remembered something important. Go into your settings.ini in the BFBC2 folder in my documents. You need to manually set the directx version to 9. there will be an option

dxversion=auto

it needs to be

dxversion=9
