Upgrading is a can of worms...

Ok, so I just bought Deus Ex recently thinking my computer could handle it. It could, but the lag was extremely vexing to the point of ragequit. :cursing: Setting it to the lowest marks isn't helping, so, the obvious answer is to upgrade my CPU.

My current CPU is an AMD Athlon Dual Core 5050e. It requires an AM2 socket. The only problem is that the fastest AM2 is only about 2.8 GHz. So now I need a new mother board.

I opened up my comp and found the motherboard as being an MSI MS-7548. Now what I want to know is some suggestions for an adequate upgrade. I'm looking for a new mother board with a PCI Express slot, four RAM slots, and an AM3 CPU socket. Do you have any suggestions?

actually some newer CPUs are backwards compatible. Check AMD's website for which CPUs that will work.

With six cores, it's unrivaled in overall performance, however, I would recommend an aftermarket cooler to deal with the heat.
And as for the can of worms thing, indeed it is, because you will also be needing new RAM :biggrin:

I'm not sure about your ceiling for price, but if you can afford the extra dough, I would go with the 8gb to prevent yourself from having to upgrade in the future.

Also, just to be safe, you did check both your GPU and you PSU to ensure they could run with these new parts and not bottle neck them, right?
