Long story short, I work at an auto repair shop and day after day I have to deal with the retarded general public and their cars. Our shop opens at 8:00am and we do all the basic repairs on pretty much everything. No, this isn't an add for my shop...this is a rant about all the **** I have to deal with, and how difficult it is for my to bite my tongue on these occasions!

Let this be a warning for you the next time you bring your car in to have it serviced, everything will go smoothly for both parties if you're not like this guy...

SO...that being said...enter customer Steve! Steve decided to show up today at 11:45am (unannounced and without an appointment) to have repairs done on his BEAUTIFUL....STUNNING piece of human engineering....his 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager V6 (...a slight purplish color with OVER 200k miles). According to Steve, he hit something while on the freeway and now his POS van has it's check engine light on. The next words out of his mouth are...

Steve: "Can you do it today? If so can I have it back by 2:00pm (keep in mind, he showed up at 11:45), and how much is it going to be because I might need you to carry me for a few weeks, I might not have all the money!"

Lets review:

Showing up unannounced and with no Appointment.....Check
Showing up at lunch when no one is available......Check
Giving us a 2 hour time window so we can fit into HIS schedule.....Check
Not having the money to pay for it in the first place.......Check
Wanting us to carry him for 3 weeks until he gets the money......Check

.....and he wants us to stop what we're doing and cater to him right that second because he doesn't have a ride.....all within 2 hours and he can't be late because he has "stuff" to do...

I'll be straight up with you people....we're NOT going to pull a $1159 timing belt job, a $565 hub bearing job, and a $975 a/c job just so we can take a "quick look" at your beater car!

Don't like if, fine, I don't give 2 ****'s about your schedule....go take it to EZ-Lube or the Dealer...and when they rob you blind, don't come crawling back to us! :cursing:

...and the worst part is, this happens at LEAST 2 times a day  lol

People are never on time...they think they're the center of the universe...and they need their stuff done yesterday...

Anyone else care to share a story about a time they worked with the general public and had to deal with frustrating people?!

Ever called tech support? same problem. SO many things i wish i could say about HP....-_-

I ALWAYS have that problem. I run a clinic near the Axis Spawn on Donner (Sometimes its called 'Slaughter House') and every day people will run inside, unannounced, and go through the doors into my upstairs office! Can you believe that? It drives me NUTS!

@Dr.C: HAHAHAHAHAHA don't you just hate that!! xD

@Sonic: I've had a lot of offers to do tech support work but always turn it down. It would only take about 3 phone calls of "um....my printer isn't printing" to make go go off the deep end!....Plus, I don't like being talked to like I'm an idiot...YES, I know what the task bar is, can we move on please!? lol

Do you work in my high school?

theres prolly a couple dozen in my school who act like that on a daily basis.
then there are the ones who do that every other day...

So, why is your clinic called the 'Slaughter House'? Doesn't seem like a good place for a check-up.

Never quite so extreme, but I was a cashier at Safeway for like seven years....yes seven. OMFG, customers are ridiculous. Too many stories for me to type this late.

BTW I was fired from Safeway for "being racist towards a customer" (yes racism was my official reason-for-firing). The customer: A white 30-something, modern-non-practicing Jewish woman from the Sandpoint neighborhood of Seattle. I am a suburban-raised everything Northern-European white man from Seattle in my early 20s at the time. Are you kidding me? All because she tried to come through an express lane with literally two full carts of groceries and I said "No, I have other customers to help."

Human's suck.

sadly, i have no stories to tell, but my dad, who's a firefighter, has told mencountless stories of people calling 911 for stupid reasons. The other day, apparently someone called 911 because they were exhausted... seriously? he gets 911 calls like that every shift, and it makes me lose faith in humanity!!

idk, i think the general public's iq dropped once we hit the 21st century

I hate when people pull the race card, specially when it's over something that's CLEARLY LISTED AS 10 ITEMS PER CUSTOMER RETARD!!!! haha

I worked at Costco for 2 years and bagging groceries is the worst!...at this point, I'm really over working with the public lol

Oh man hahahah, I listened to this 911 call where this lady was completely fed up with her kids and she needed a babysitter.....I mean COME ON!!!!:cursing: lol

Mmmm...can't you just tell him, "No, sorry"?

See it's a vicious circle....I did end up telling him we would need to reschedule, and this time everything worked out alright...

but what TENDS to happen about 70% or the time.....is they take it somewhere else to have it fixed, usually an EZlube, the dealer, or one of those other in-and-out car shops, that shop then tells them they need about $2000 worth of stuff done to their car...

WHICH THEN leads them BACK to us, because now they want us to check and make sure that the $2000 they were told needed to be done...really needs to be done

SOOOO...Instead of just waiting a day and rescheduling, they take it somewhere else to save $1, and then come back and waste OUR time to look at stuff that we KNOW wont need to be done! (example: a 2011 Toyota Camry with only 20K miles on it DOESN'T need new shocks and struts....but EZlube will tell you it does!)

So instead of making it easy, they end up wasting more of their time AND our time, more money on gas, and more planning out...and turn a simple situation into a pain in everyones ass!

thats my problem -_- I probably know more than these guys and I'M ONLY 16!!!!!!!!

How did you age 2 years in the 7 months since you joined? (you were 14 in January...)

BUT - calling HP for customer service is usually my LAST resort. My first solution is to get Deets to fix my computer problem. Not only does he know more than tech support, but he's a local call.

<<Works IT for a college....and 6 years of retail before/during college....I hear you.

And for those of you that hate calling HP...the support for business customers isn't much better.
