Hello everyone.

I come to you today with a possible dilemma. I haven't been around too much lately, and i just checked what the system requirements are going to be for Battlefield 3. I am running XP, and i see that XP will not be supported for the game, forcing me to make an upgrade of my OS in order to play. Now, the big question is this: Am i able to upgrade to either Vista or 7 without having to completly wipe all the stuff on my computer. I'm not too familiar with OS stuff so please give me some insight, thank you :)

You can upgrade XP straight to windows 7 without going to Vista. All you need to do is backup your files onto an external hard drive then install windows 7 then put the files back.

Vista is absolutely horrble so just skip it all together and go straight to Windows 7, and I believe there is an upgrade option, but I'm not sure. Like ^he said you could always borrow an external hard drive from a friend and just backup the stuff you want then transfer it back.

You can't use the upgrade function when upgrading from XP straight to W7, only from Vista to W7. It will still install perfectly fine using the "Custom Install" method though. Just make sure you backup your files because custom install WILL format your HDD.

Don't go to vista.. AT ALL!

If you have the official windows 7 CD and insert it I am 100% sure it gives you an "upgrade" option so you keep all your files and just upgrade OS.

IMO I would recommend a clean installation but if you want the easier option then click Upgrade.

You can't do direct upgrade from XP to 7. But backup everything and use custom install option. S fresh install is always better anyway.

I like vista... but Win7 is better. Haha umm like others already said your best bet would be to back up everything onto an external hard drive, if you have one if not you can borrow one from a friend or find a nice deal on one.

Ahh okay, and another note; You don't have to worry about re-downloading and installing drivers with Windows 7.

Really? so all i'd have to worry about is moving my files back over and redownloading all my steam games? that's not too bad.

Yes knuckle to do have to worry about your drivers, Win 7 finds generic drivers for your computer and uses them until you can get the proper drivers for your computer, but man u are way in the past gramps with ur XP get with the times bro!

Bane i never had an issue with XP so i didn't see a need to upgrade until i would be forced to. Upgrading for Battlefield 3 is a good reason to do so :D
