My Top 3 Racing games based on customization, realistic feel and graphics:
1) Forza Motorsport 2
2) Gran Turismo 4
3) Midnight Club Los Angeles http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/mcla/gallery.html*click the link for some pics of my cars xD*
I personally liked Forza Motorsport 2 over ANY racing games (rally and street) I have ever played. Maybe it was the un-matched customization or the pure realistic feel and the affect crashes had.
If you haven't played Forza Motorsport 2 here it is:
Forza Motorsport 2 REDEFINED racing games. Though it didn't have the best graphics, it had and still has THE BEST CUSTOMIZATION of any racing game out there including the Midnight Club series. By customization I don't mean making your car look shiny and cool with decals but rather with almost anything you can imagine would be under the hood of a car. It doesn't stop at the engine and decals though, this game goes so far in depth it even goes into the tires and suspension system it's unbelievable. Having your sway bars wrong or the PSI in your tires, the brake reaction and even the hardness/ softness of your suspension could make or brake a race.
Though it has no "story mode" does that even matter if you truly love cars and appreciate them not just seeing them as pretty scrap metal which you can easily fix after a race by "plowing" your way to the lead like these new games seem to be doing and actually encouraging?
The PERFECT example of seeing cars as pretty scrap metal and plowing your way to the lead is Need For Speed: Shift. I really had a great take on the NFS series until Shift came out. I played that game maybe an hour, got bored and sad on how they screwed it up and returned it back in for $10 less than I payed for it.
