A member of the Android Central forum uploaded a picture of a Best Buy employee waving his middle finger, which came pre-loaded on his newly purchased Samsung Epic 4G Touch (Galaxy S II) smartphone. After discovering the surprise extra, he sought out a store manager who dismissed the situation, saying it's not uncommon for Best Buy employees to open new merchandise and play with the hardware before boxing them back up and selling as new.

"Yeah I have to admit the camera quality is petty nice, lol. But yeah I spoke to their manager and he just made excuses, 'When we get in new devices the techs like to open them up and explore them a bit,' was his reasoning," Android Central forum member "remii" explains. "I then asked why would there be such a vulgar photo on my phone then and he went on to say that they should have deleted it before it was sold. Awesome."

Remii had better luck speaking with a second manager who "apologized profusely" and set him up with a new device, presumably one that hasn't been toyed with by juvenile employees, and threw in a $25 gift card for good measure.

Wow...its not that I dislike Best Buy...but this is sad. My family doesn't shop there much, but I'll agree their customer service is terrible. Returning items usually takes 30+ minutes, when it should take 5 or 10. Whoever the employee was...well, it just shows their mental incapabilities.

I used to work at compUSA and it is true some boxes do get opened but generally only display ones and discounted when sold. I got a kick out of this thanks paint.
 
Working for a cell phone provider, I can say opening new stock isn't something that's regularly done - at least with our company. When new models come out we typically get a demo unit for staff to play with... this is what should be done with all stores. I assumed this was standard with all stores...

I know Best Buy does that with camera's as they offered me a slight discount if I purchased their display model camera. I declined as the incentive wasn't enough to counter the long term costs if there were issues outside of warranty (and I don't have a bestbuy anywhere near me (closest is 1200 miles or so) if I used their store warranty).

If a store manager told me (or I found out by some other means), that their staff played with or tested a electronic device, and then tried to sell it as new, I'd be pissed and would return it. They would also lose ALL of whatever business they might have received. I have no issues buying an 'open box' item - as long as it's advertised as such.
 
aw man and I love best buy. But hey at least in mine I havent had anything go bad yet oh and I have returned stuff in 10 mins in the one here. oh and yea its actually funny.
 
STICK IT TO THE MAN!

I hate hearing about new products being messed with and sold as new.......it's why I don't buy anything from GameStop...
 
looks like i can be happy not to have best buy over here in germany :P

Sadly, we have GameStop in Denmark. But no BestBuy! :P

If I want a retail game or w/e, I go to blockbuster <3
 
We only have like 3 or something Best Buys in this country and one happens to be right near me, however I do not shop there as it's cheaper to buy online.
 
In return, he received a BRAND NEW one and a $25 Gift Card from a 2nd manager he talked to... Seriously?! I would of flipped him the bird!
 
I buy most of my gaming equipment from best buy. The black tie protection plan is really good. Any problems with my mouse, keyboard, or headphones and I get a brand new one and it only takes 10 mins max for the replacement. Not only that but the Insignia brand is best buys store brand and for the TV's all they are is Samsung TV's with a different badge on them.
