Certain drum sections of songs stick with people. Everyone knows the sound although they might not be able to place it. The following are songs like that:

Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight
Everyone knows the hook at 3:22. What is always impressive is watching him sing his heart out while smashing out the drum set. This video is from a concert in 1982.

The Safaris - Wipeout
Not solely drums, but everyone knows the drums in this beach classic from 1963. This video has the original guitarist playing.

Richard Strauss - Thus Spake Zarathustra
(opening theme of 2001: A Space Odyssey)
The brass section takes the lead, but I love the drums in this movie opening. BOM BOM, BOM BOM. Simple, yet infinitely recognizable.

Rush - YYZ
I had to have one example of extreme drum kits from the 80s. Why not a Rush song that shows off Neil Peart's percussion ability.

The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
I needed some Keith Moon and while Daltrey and Townsend outshine him in the showmanship department, the hook that starts around 7:30 is quite memorable. What an all around great song.

Bonus
Hector Berlioz - Grande Messe des morts (Requiem)
I will throw in an extra personal favorite. Most people don't know this one but the percussion is mind blowing. This might be the loudest non-amplified song ever. Berlioz was asked by the government of France to compose a Requiem Mass to remember soldiers who died in the Revolution of July 1830. It premiered in 1837. This thing features 16 Timpanis and 2 bass drums. If you know drums, you know that 16 is unheard of and loud. They are used during the sequence of the song to simulate the coming of God for judgement and it thunders loudly! Jump to 4:20 and listen on for the buildup and then the thunder at 5:20.

What are your most memorable drums?

Aerosmith living on the Edge. Song stops, drums come in again. Its just waaay to epic... the four beats are actually played on a bass drum Steven Tyler stole from his highschool.

Also Pour some sugar on me by Def leppard... EPIC :P

Also their new song, Undefeated... just amazing drumming... especially considering the drummer only has 1 arm.
I went to one of their concerts.. It was amazing... the power and energy was insane.

Would call that good drumming, not great and certainly not epic. Yes he only has one arm, but everything is foot pedals and preprogrammed rolls and hooks. He has a couple drums, a pile of symbols and about 6 programmed foot pedals. He also uses custom triggers to go from acustic to electric sounds.

Not a famous guy, but he should be, just watch the drummer, and look up more videos.

Also Sprach Zarathustra is a fun fanfare, great bass and percussion. Just a fun piece to play in any ensemble :p

Also, I dare any1 to find the greatest triangle part ever lol

I think my fave bit of drum work would be Foo Fighters - Best of you. When it gets to like 2:00 in to the song, thats when the drums just make me like dieeee! Wish I could play drums... *sigh*

I thought i would go ahead and post this, pretty hard to beat bonzo.
