Very Interesting and cool

All i can think of is this: Scumbag CERN.

Einstein's theory is false then?

They havent 100% confirmed it.

Pretty much, they found the particles moving 0.0025% faster then the speed of light. with a margin of error of +/- 0.0004%.

So even if their calculations are off some, its still moving faster then light

Once they can definitively prove its moving faster then light, Einsteins theory will become false, and physics will break

This completely changes my concept of future interstellar and short distance travel methods. Formerly Teleportation was the ultimate goal in short distance travel (IE converting particles into energy and reconstituting) now that the LAWS OF PHYSICS ARE BROKEN we can go whatever speed we want to.

Also, time travel.

This news literally made my decade.

Biggest issue with Physics, every 50 years or so the rules are rewritten.

I really want it to hold up, but this isn't the first time this has happened. Fermilab here in the U.S. had a false-positive back in like 2007 or something, too.

Now Fermilab is the only facility that is capable of trying to confirm the results (another lab in Japan is also capable, but damaged by the earthquake), but neither of their detectors are sufficient to the task quite yet, so it could be awhile before the verdict is in.

It should be noted that if Fermilab can replicate the results, the neutrino beam they do it with will land here in Minnesota. History!

Yes, but no test has been so conclusive.

They rested it literally 15,000 times to be sure, and the beam was 0.0025% faster then light with a 0.0004-/+, so even if they're off its still faster.

Still, could always just be some phreak mess up

It is a bit hard to measure times with speeds that fast, after all.

Reposting from the shoutbox.

But she's only going 1635.31 m/s in that pic, and that's like the fastest she's ever been. Nowhere near 3*10^8 m/s.

I keep my srs business separate from my ponies, and physics are srs business.

is it wrong that since it was mcore posting this i just assumed that it would be a picture of rainbow dash instead of an actual article?

"We have high confidence in our results. We have checked and rechecked for anything that could have distorted our measurements but we found nothing," he said. "We now want colleagues to check them independently."

If this is true, it could very well break one of the most well-known rules of science known.
But yeah, that has already been discussed in this thread, so I guess I'll have to move on :(
