New card help!

Help a BF brother out. >.<


I want to upgrade my nvidia 9800GTX+ to something that will give me some more oomph before BF3 hits, but my stupid two trucks falling apart make a little on the low end of big spending.

Can someone out there give me a hand in finding a less than horrendously expensive upgrade? I really don't know anything about this sort of thing. I don't know what is better than what.

GTX 470 is slightly more than 200 but the 460 sounds like it's right in your budget. It'll play bf3 but to get it maxed you need to dish out $900+ lol

lol...? I say in sound judgement that the 460 should be able to max it. If not, it will get close. However...do you have any Microcenters near you Ink? They have some insane deals on computer parts.

Cheapest GTX 580 = $464. x2 = $928.

My point = proven. :P

Also the gtx 460 is the recommended specs which they say will be able to run it at medium settings.

P.S.- I've got a 460 and depending on the beta performance I'll probably upgrade. I'll sell it to you if you like :P

uhhhh idk about that pbj..... 460 is under recommended settings..... if you look at the bf3 blogspot on one of the posts they mentioned that they were using a 580 on the pc that they were testing it on. you'll be able to play on mid with a couple things on high at most. but no where near max

and yeah i would go with a 400 series card.... dont go ati, nvidia out performs them. try for a 470 or 480... just note that they are very large cards that run pretty hot, so if you dont have a big tower you might not have enough space for the card.
 
Around the beginning of the year I built my latest system (This might be a little outdated). During this I researched video cards relentlessly.

I have always had nVidia cards... based on priceXperformance+eyefinity I went with the Radeon chipset graphics cards. At one point I had to return some stuff and considered changing back to nVidia but was not able to find the priceXperformance with nVidia cards.

There was one card that was very similar in performance to the new 69xx series chipset...the HD 6870

It has 1GB onboard..need to check if BF3 needs 2GB.

Buy one now then buy another when you get another $2hundy and crossfire them.
 
The 6870 is gonna be the best bang for your buck at that price point and with rebates you can get them for 150.00.

It also depends on the version and manufacturer. Personally, I think it will work pretty damn well...but who knows. We'll see. Still, the 460 is a great bang for buck.

I love my 460 but I don't think it'll run bf3 on the level I would like.
 
I've been wondering about upgrading my graphics card too since the specs were released.

Current system:
i7 960 @ 3.2 Ghz
8 GB RAM
500W PSU
ATi Sapphire 5750

I want to know what would be the most logical step. Should I Crossfire 5750's? upgrade? if so, to what, another ATi or should I go nVidia? depending on which brand, then which card that is under $200?

I'm not looking to max. I am looking for no lag at around medium settings. Right now on BC2 I've got everything at medium, and get little to no lag.

With a rebate you might be able to get a GTX 560 Ti (I recommend ASUS, EVGA or PNY) it destroys many of the ATI/AMD Radeon cards in games that use tessellation. I am under the impression that most of the newer games will be using tessellation. The following link has a pretty nice overclocked PNY card for $198.00 after rebate:

Tessellation is confirmed for BF3 so I would stick with the NVIDIA GTX500 series cards until ATI/AMD releases the 7000 series that actually perform well with tessellation enhanced games.

Which GTX 560 would you get? There's the NVIDIA ($299), PNY ($249), ASUS ($249), Gigabyte ($249), and EVGA ($249). What's the difference between them?

Same with the 6870. Which one do you get? There's Sapphire, HIS, Powercolor, XFX, Diamond, Gigabyte, etc...

*sigh*
