CS:S And School

Great post Bumb---eerrr great post Gandalf.

As long as you keep growing and learning you are anything but pathetic.

School does need to come first. When I was in college there was a reason that Halo night was only one night a week.

Find some time for gaming, but not at the cost of school or work. Money isn't everything, but it is necessary.

Gandalf = Angry Arab

The past couple of years, my grades were horrible because I rarely finished (or at least actually started) my homework, nor did I ever study for quizzes and tests. This was due to several things, including a couple unrelated personal issues in my life (depression, anxiety, and OCD), but one of these things was definitely the fact that I put gaming waaay before what I needed to do to succeed in school.

I got my personal issues worked out, though, which in turn helped me realize that it's very important to put school first. I screwed around during my freshman and sophomore years of high school, but now that I'm a junior, I really need to get serious, and I have been. I'm still not perfect of course and I still need to work on making sure I put school first, but 99% of the time now, I turn in my homework and do at least adequate studying.

My grades have improved drastically since the start of this year - from Fs, Ds, and low Cs, to As, Bs, and the occasional high C - and it feels absolutely amazing. I can't even describe.

For anyone struggling in school - particularly those just blowing school off or thinking that your grades are not important - I don't know if this bit of advice will help you, because it didn't help me while I was struggling, but listen to me when I say: Your grades matter. School matters. It all matters. You will be majorly kicking yourself later in life when you have to work at McDonald's eight hours a day for years instead of getting a good career in medical, military, technology, whatever...just because you decided to fool around in school, not get your homework turned in, etc.

A year ago, I understood why that knowledge was important, but I never changed. I don't know whether or not if it was because by then, I was already in such a huge hole with my grades, that I didn't care to try to get them back up, but I do know that my mental/psychological struggles were causing a majority of my problems in school.

It's a new year though, and I got to start off with a clean slate. That, and not having to worry about severe anxiety or anything, I've been doing much, much better, like I said.

So anyways, Gandalf is absolutely right. Put school first. Get your homework done early so you don't have to worry about it and you have the rest of your time to play games or whatever. Study hard, and get good grades on your tests. Yes, it can be difficult at times, especially if you're used to slacking off and not doing a lot of work, but it will be more than worth it in the end. Trust me.

The Games will be there when your done with your education. You won't miss anything. They get better every year. And the better you do, the sweeter system you can afford.

Thanks for the post _Gandalf_

Well said Gandalf! I couldn't agree more! All you younger people would do well to take this piece of advice!

I am currently a sophomore studying, what is arguably one of the harder majors out there, Music Education. I am technically only taking 17 credits this semester, but with all of the requred groups and such that I have to be in, My load is about 23 credits. As you can imagine, that doesn't leave much time for gaming during the week. But I do get on, when I can! These guys have already said it before, but take advantage of the opportunity you have to learn! It may seem like a drag right now, but later, you will wish that you had applied yourself. I know I wish I had.

And like Quaffer said, gaming will always be here. Do what needs to be done first.

So essentially Gandalf said.

You better study or.........

YOU

SHALL

NOT

PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also out of curiosity what school do you go to?

Personally speaking, I find games a lot more enjoyable if I know I don't have anything else I need to do. If I don't finish work before I play, I sit there and play knowing in the back of my mind I have to stop and do some work... Hi, I'm Gizzmo and I approve this message.

Nowadays i always put school infront of everything else --> sports, games and other stuff.
Learned to do this the hard way by failing 1 year and having to switch over to a lower level of education.

Currently i'm in college and all is going well, more than enough time for games and homework. Just have to plan it a little, and i suck at planning xD

2 years ago I put videogames in front of school and almost had to go to court because I missed so much school and was slacking a ton. My parents got mad(understatement) and I was grounded for a long time. Now I've learned that education is way more important than Call of Duty or Counter Strike or whatever game I might play, and I always put my school work in front of my gaming. I hope you all follow Gandalf's advice and learn from his, mine, and many others mistakes.
