EdgeGamer's October Newsletter

Summer is slowly turning into Fall, and we have been as busy as ever here at EdgeGamers Organization. You may remember that last month we reported an expansion in leadership. Well, the expansion has continued at an awesome pace. We have seen so many new Advisors that even among leadership there was some confusion. On that note, we would also like to congratulate DoD:S long time Division Leader Spray on becoming our latest Council member. Please check out the Divisional News forums to find out which divisions gained additional leadership.

Each division is gearing up to do one or more of the following things: Introduce new games, increase the variety of events, or improve their servers. Check the forums to determine how you can assist your division in reaching (or surpassing) its goals. Please enjoy the rest of the newsletter, and leave comments to any of the articles that you find interesting.

Have you ever wondered what it must have been like seeing the game Pong released? Ever thought, "I wonder what people were thinking about videogames back then?" Well, I got to sit down with jtipton, one of the oldest Advisors in EdgeGamers, who also happens to be one of Battlefield's newest Advisors. Let me explain.

Jtipton is a man who has truly seen it all: The first man in space, the first dog in space, Buicks with tail fins, the "British Invasion", Lost in Space, Gunsmoke, and the original NERF ball.

One evening jtipton went over to his friends house and his life forever changed. Sparks went off and the gears turned; ladies and gentlemen, jtipton was in love. What did he fall in love with? Well, you guessed it; it was the game of Pong. Those little paddles and that bouncing ball just never ceased to amaze him. Still to this day he gets a tear in his eye when he reminisces about Pong.

Currently, jtipton likes to bounce bullets around in people's skulls from 400 yards away with a sniper rifle - sort of like the ball in Pong. Having an itchy trigger finger, he cannot wait to play Battlefield 3 and send those bullets flying. You will more than likely see him running around in Battlefield 3; moving from rooftop to rooftop or from brush to brush and will think to yourself, "He has seen it all, read it all and lived it all; I think I will congratulate him on a job well done." Unfortunately it is too late. Your life has been cut short. You are simply another casualty in his long wake of destruction.

Every month we will accept proposals for the Thread of the Month from you. The only restriction is that the thread must be found on a public forum. Proposed threads will be rated by the Newsletter staff and appraised based on clan wide interest, entertainment value, and value provided to the EdgeGamers community. The winner will receive the TOTeM award.

For the month of September we are proud to present our Thread of the Month TOTeM to YoSpankDawg for Realism Campaign 4 picturebook! (recently declassified)

The September rules restricted the threads to those that were created in September. We had many requests for threads that were active in September but had been created in earlier months. So we ran a poll. The results were 83 to 38 in favor of accepting any thread in the public forums, so feel free to nominate older threads as well as current ones.

Send your own proposals for the October Thread of the Month as links in a PM to Quaffer, Attention TOTM.

Nominations are closed for October.

Thanks to SapphireBunny for this beautiful TOTeM award.

We asked Artimus (CEO of EdgeGamers) what the most popular thing is in the store. In a remarkable discovery, it's the shirts. Need a shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie? Want to represent eGO on the move? Our Zazzle store has all the eGO Apparel you'll ever want and/or need. All items are customizable...Want a blue logo instead of white? Want your name on it? Want 2500 shirts to distribute at your high school's next football game? Is it a baby shower you're attending? Maybe a wedding? Look no further my friends.

The Personnel Service Center welcomes two new Advisors. Kingback, who has recently transferred to the division and is no stranger to the recruiting drive and Reverend_Rhah's, who has more than proved his mettle in training new PSC members.

Congratulations to both Barmy Army and Dead Tom for receiving the Division Leader Commendation for their dedication to the PSC division and EdgeGamers. Division Leader IceStyle received the prestigious Medal of Honor for his innovative ideas, attention to detail, and overall level of commitment that has been critical to the PSC division's success.

Do you remember being confused or having a million questions when you joined eGO? The PSC needs friendly volunteers to help make that process as easy as possible for the community's newest members. We're always looking for eG or eGO members who are interested in helping out.

Slazenger filled us in on what is happening in the Battlefield Division.

As expected, EdgeGamers will be supporting Battlefield 3 with a number of servers that has yet to be decided. In preparation for the October 25 release, the division will be hosting a gala of small events beginning on October 21. Be assured that eGO will continue to support Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

The Battlefield Division would like you to welcome LilShortstuf as Division Leader as well as Gizzmo and jtipton as Advisors.

Leadership is very pleased with the level of participation of new recruits, who have been enthusiastic and not at all shy in volunteering their suggestions.

Plans have been solidified for weekly Battlefield special events. Check the calendar for these, and an upcoming tournament. The scrims against other communities are going well. There is a great deal of satisfaction and fun in representing eGO in the gaming world.

The Call of Duty competitive team has resumed tryouts. Tryouts were held on September 16, 17, and 18. The five starters and two reserve players chosen will be announced soon. If you would like to know more about the competitive team contact HayesY on the forums.

COD Division members have been trying hard to keep the new team death match rotation server populated, which has been difficult, especially with school starting back up. The good news is, we have seen more pubs (players from the public sector). Now is the time to be active and to recruit new members.

The release of Modern Warfare 3 is set for early November and our members are eagerly awaiting its launch. It has already been announced that the game will support dedicated servers. With this feature returning, and the anti-cheat improvements made in Black Ops, eGO admins will have an easier job of keeping the servers punk free. The specifics on server support have not yet been announced, so the adoption is not official, but the COD division is optimistic that MW3 will be added to the Call of Duty line up.

The Counter-Strike Source division has had another amazing month. Leadership wishes to congratulate recently promoted Event Coordinators and thank them for their hard work.

The CS:S recruiting contest starts October 1st and ends Halloween night. All EdgeGamers members are eligible to participate in this contest. The four recruiters with the most CS:S Division recruits for the month will receive some great prizes such as Battlefield 3 on Steam or $60 USD Steam cash, casino cash, and be eligible to receive a forum achievement. More information will be posted soon in the CS:S division discussion forum.

Every server in CS:S is doing well. However, the zombie sever could use some special attention, so everyone get in there and kill some zombies (or run like a zombie is chasing you).

The =(e)= vs. =(eG)= Dog Tag Scrim went off without any hiccups. The e's achieved a total victory against the eG's. The e’s luck ran out however when they faced the indomitable prowess of the =(eGO)= members. We hope to get a great turnout and see everyone at the next dog tag scrim.

I had the chance to speak with our local Day of Defeat Advisor, ST0RMY, about upcoming events and what to expect for the month of October.

Recruiting has been steadily increasing since the July slump. Starting in August, 28 recruits have been added to the ranks of the Allies and Axis. The DoD:S Division Recruitment team is planning on maintaining or even improving its pace in the near future.

Events -- eGO members can?t get enough of them, and there is no shortage of events in the DoD:S Division. In the next few weeks Leadership will be testing submissions from the New Event Competition to help decide the winner of the contest. But that?s not all, another division-wide scrimmage event, the Realism Campaign, is in the works, and will be sure to be as fun as the last. Also, be prepared for themed events on Halloween weekend.

A division-wide meeting is planned to take place, later in October. Please check the DoD:S division forums for more information.

Now, for your public service announcement from ST0RMY: "Get in Vent you pansies!!!".

The EVE division is going into a major rebuilding cycle. In past months they have killed over 200 ships in four different engagements but the September slump has hit therm hard.

Every September gamers go back to school or find they must ramp up for new projects at work and reduce their gaming activities as they deal with real life. That is as it should be. Real life must come first.

Still if you find yourself with a little extra time on your hands, and you want to wreak havoc among the stars for fun and profit, drop in on the EVE division. They'll leave a homing beacon on for you.

As many of you know, last month First Person Shooter Experiment (FPS:X) changed its name to Operation eXperimental (OP:X). Sgt.Beavis and DigitalDJ, the two Division Leaders, in explaining the reasoning behind the name change, stated a desire to further advance game types supported by EdgeGamers.

Council decided to encourage any type or genre of game to be incorporated into the division. This allows OP:X to build a strong presence in games never before experienced by eGO, and to build a roster of strong, loyal, and highly supportive members. This move allows any game to begin in OP:X and possibly evolve into its very own EdgeGamers division.

One of the newest games in the OP:X division is Red Orchestra 2. This game is reminiscent of a blend of Insurgency and Day of Defeat and is one of the most realistic shooters available. RO2 takes place during World War 2 and focuses on the Battle of Stalingrad. It is quickly growing into one of the most popular games within OP:X. This well developed game is fast paced and requires a great amount of skill, but is recommended to everyone.

While enjoying RO2, congratulate DigitalDJ and Sgt.Beavis on making OP:X a truly unique division.

World of Tanks

The Strategy Division's World of Tanks group is participating in Clan Wars. In Clan Wars the game designers have divided a global map into hundreds of areas, each with its own benefits. Once per day, a Clan can attack a neighboring province. They must then do battle for the challenged land. Clans cannot succeed alone. They can make alliances with other clans and players for protection and support. The Strat team is currently looking for high level tanks to help in the fight.

MineCraft
In other Strat Division news, Minecraft has been updated. Recently, the game developer Notch pushed out the first half of the Adventure Update and we have already patched our server. A map reset was not needed this time around. Instead, the borders were extended, creating a brand new landscape that is awaiting your creations.

Building materials don't come cheap, but you can earn free coins daily on the eGO website. Every day after Midnight Central time, Click on the Strategy Division logo at the top of the website and choose eGO Minecraft Central. You will be prompted for your Username and Coin balance. Hit submit and you are on your way to free stuff.

SuperGlue Interviews Activate and CrazyWolf
Activate

Have there been any promotions this past month? Any new leaders or members that deserve a special mention?
We recently participated in the Back to School promotion campaign along with a few other divisions. Notably, Kevimaster was promoted to Division Leader and I have recently been promoted to Event Coordinator Advisor.

Has TF2 been updated lately; any achievements or new maps?
The game is always being updated, so there is really no way I can narrow it down to one update. However, Valve recently released Steam Trading. This means you can trade games or items from different games for items within Team Fortress 2.

How are current Events going and can we expect to see any new events in the TF2 Division?
Initially, I must tell you that we now have a new Events server which is stable and has little to no lag at all. This will make all our current events even more enjoyable. Also, The Event Coordination team is currently working on establishing some new events, so members should expect to see a few new ones by October.

Could you tell me what your favorite player class is and why?
My favorite class is Spy. The versatility of this class makes it unique among others. You may see me disguised behind enemy lines one moment, and taking out a heavy-medic pair the next. Plus, I get to “face-stab” Sequel Sentry and VP!

CrazyWolf

Has the TF2 Division started any new events?
Recent new events that have been added are Prophunt and Dodgeball. Gameplay and maps are still being tested during the events to find the best configurations.

What is your favorite player class is and why?
I don't really have a favorite class; my class changes all the time depending on the style of game play, and whether I'm attacking or defending.

Is there anything new in the TF2 Division that you would like to tell eGO members about?
Yes, The TF2 competitive team began its first season in the United Gaming Clans League with its first match on Sept. 21st. It was a preseason match which they lost, but in the true spirit of EdgeGamers, they became friends with another competitive team, who they will be practicing with often. They are also currently working out the details to start having the matches streamed live, so you may look forward to watching them!

A special thank you to Activate and CrazyWolf for taking the time for these interviews.

Promotions are afoot in the World of Warcraft division. Congratulations to Deathmane for being promoted to Officer of Recruiting. Officers in eGO? What the Heck? Well, the WoW division has officers in charge of different aspects of the division. There are officers for recruiting, raiding, events, and operations. Operations is a specialty roll that an eG or eGO member can obtain which gives them more responsibility within the division, not unlike an Event Coordinator or Admin Trainer in other divisions.

Blizzard recently registered a trademark for "Mists of Pandaria" which has many gamers curious about what's coming next. Some are speculating it's a new patch for WoW. Currently, Blizzard is working on version 4.3 of the Cataclysm add-on, which is scheduled for release in the next 6 months. If Mists of Pandaria does turn out to be an expansion, we can expect its release in about a year.

You may have recently seen a front page news article for Storm Peaks Rescue Party stating: "A recent hunting expedition to the Storm Peaks has gone terribly wrong. A zeppelin has been blown off course and crashed. Help us find them and you will be greatly rewarded." Many stopped in for this WoW event. Four players were chosen to hide in a specific area of the world and the rest of the players in the event searched for them. It took about 30 minutes in total to find all the players. If you like to play hide-and-seek this is an event you don't want to miss.
