Event Attendance

Hey guys, it's me, your favorite graphics artist! Unfortunately, attendance during events has not really been that great. Usually we barely have enough people to fill the tournaments, even with the people who sign up as fill-ins, and even then we have to pull people that didn't even sign up!

I know I know, you don't HAVE to attend events, and beta IS out, but think about it. You're going to own the friggen game later this month, and it's only 2 hours TOPS out of your play time.

As we all know, BC2, and probably BF3, aren't very event friendly because we can't really edit the maps or anything like in source. We work pretty hard to come up with fresh ideas to entertain you guys, so all we ask in return is that you sacrifice an hour or two to come play.

Again, you don't HAVE to come, but if nobody comes to our events, our events will probably disappear all together. So please, try your best to attend some of the events!

brought to you by manatee man.

I dont play the beta. I'd love to come to events since I most likely have nothing else to do but it seems they've all moved away from fridays and saturdays so I cant help you, but wish i could :(

PS: Am I the only euro here? D:

Nope, I do believe Germany is in Europe.

tried to attend yesterday but was caught up at work, will make it to the next one for sure:)

I have been stuck at work during the last few events. rl > game If they happen when I can make them I'll be there

I'm sorry, but I enjoy scriming against other clans to events. I've tried events in the past with previous divisions and they just weren't very fun to me.

I like banding together with my eGO gaming family to prove our extreme leetness against others.

^_^

I'm out of town until mid Oct so I can't attend, otherwise I likely would be attending the events. Sorry.

The reason we moved away from Friday and Saturday events was out of necessity for being able to unrank and password the server. As we move forward and event attendance stays high we will have more weekly events and also have more on the weekends.

I try if I can and like always it is not a requirement. The way I always see things troop real life events (Work and family)are more important than gaming life. :thumbup1:

I see these event as learning experiences, truth be known I would rather get some ego's in my squad and wreak havoc, but it can't always work out that way, and it often doesn't.
These events are a chance to do just that, plus if your in vent, you are most likely going to walk away with your sides hurting, I have on both events I have attended.
Also I get to play with folks I don't normally get to play with, it is all about making new friends and learning the game. I have found no one in ego, that will not lend a helping hand, be it with the game or with computers, or anything that I have ask about.
On top of all this I have earned a few ego achievements, so far all I am seeing is win, win win....:)

I love events, but Mondays are probably the worst days for me =(. School + swim practice + homework = late night and no BC

I'm with Randy along the lines of school. I'm in college, have a 5-week old kitten, and a girlfriend who requires attention. If I can make the events then there is no doubt you won't see me there. Everything just has to fit in a schedule. Like right now I'm actually losing sleep time just to make it known that I want to be a regular (divisional forum for now) in this organization. Sometimes I can sacrifice, but there is a limit.

I agree with Ink i prefer going against other clans.... but also some of the events are just getting repetitive... We need like some new concepts that encourage more competitive teamwork... like maybe a VIP kind of event like they had in Counter-Strike..Something Fresh!

Guys if you have an idea for an event feel free to PM an EC so that we can talk it over. We are more than willing to take suggestions. We are trying our best to come up with new event ideas but it is hard due to having no mod tools so we need creativity and if you have an idea SEND IT!

The current EC roster is posted in the BF Scrim Info section of the forums under the Scrim/Event Info forum.

1 problem with events is the whole "fun factor" involved. For instance, secret assassin is probably the most fun out of all of them simply because it can lead to some hilarious stuff and it's more or less every man for himself with randomized weapons. In contrast, the squad rush tournaments and whatnot are completely and totally ruined in terms of fun by people who abuse pistol cancelling with shotguns and gustav'ing everything in sight, effectively destroying every other team in the tournament. How is this fun? Not to mention, they're usually hosted in normal due to... you guessed it... snipers ruining the fun in hardcore tournaments. When and if this is ever fixed or if we have more events that don't involve such loads of crap as these tournaments do, then I'll be happy to partake in them. Until then, it's just another epeen spamfest of generally "noobish" tactics that don't merit any reward at all. Unsportmanlike, if you want a nice word for it.

Does this mean I hate tournaments? No, in fact I love them, just not in BC2; it's a broken game with broken mechanics and everyone is "playing to win" which means anything you see in a tournament that's even remotely serious is those broken mechanics, which isn't fun, which is supposedly what events are about.

Just my opinion. You can perceive this opinion as whining if you'd like, but you'd be wrong. It's more along the line of disappointment in those individuals who ruin the fun for others. That's why secret assassin is such a good event, it's random and nobody has a significant advantage or any liability to worry about.

It's a fair opinion. Out of curiosity, did you partake in the "Smoke Wars" event that was held recently? If you didn't, it consisted of people attempting to kill each other with knives and smoke grenades. Would that event be along the lines of entertaining or fun? Like what LilShort said, it's hard to be creative with events when there are no modding capabilities for BC2 or BF3 with the developers intentions to make it a "competitive" game.

I said this before, but one of the best games to represent a scale from entertaining value to CAL leages is Counter Strike. Modding and plugins made it possible for people of all genres, hobbies, and likes to appreciate a game style they enjoy the most.

No, I'm unable to attend anything at the moment due to school and work, but that would fall under the kind of event such as secret assassin and those types, which are pretty fun.

In regards to competitive stuff, yeah, unless we have access and capability to alter certain things to what we would deem fair/balanced/fun in regards to a tournament, it's impossible to make it as such, which is why that "fun factor" that events are supposed to have isn't there in tournaments. I mean sure, it's there for the winning team, but that's really about all there is to it, and what if all they did was spam gustavs and 40mm nades? It's pretty typical and pretty boring for everyone else.
