Hard Drive Question

I have an old HP Pavilion 753n that I wish to revive due to an hard drive issue. I'm wondering which one would be perfect just to get it running again. I've seen on newegg that there an average around 50$ for 160 GB, which isn't too bad.

I would also like to see about ram upgrade, but I've seen the max is only to 1 gig, is that correct?
 
Hard drives are now often 500GB for $50, give or take $10. And the max RAM you can fit onto a computer as far as I know is 32GB if you have a high-end motherboard. The amount of RAM you can have depends on your motherboard.
 
Well I can't get on the computer to check the specs about the motherboard and this computer was bought back in 2001/2002.

And where is this 500 gig for 50$ that I have not seen lol?
 
I would also like to add a Toshiba Satellite hard drive question too. Which and where should I go lol? I'm looking at that too for around 500 gigs.
 
VP, the drives that are $50 for 500 gigs of data are SATA drives. He has a computer from 2001. He needs an IDE drive, most likely. The price point of those drives are a little bit more.

So it's like, a SATA cable. Not a ribbon cable.

Also yes, the max for your computer is 1GB.
 
Alright, I have 512 RAM as of now on it. Not sure what type though.


ALSO: Would you just recommend to buy a new computer? Or would it be also cheaper to upgrade the MOBO on this old lover of memories lol.

I would personally get a MODERN computer, saves you all the trouble and it can run most games either on max or medium. It will cost money, but IMHO it's worth it.
 
Well, I don't want to spend to much when I have a laptop that does most of my gaming.
 
Heck, ill do ya 1 better. I have I think 2 ide hard drives over @ my moms place. I have the day off tomorrow, so ill see bout headin over 2 her place & searchin thru my old stuff. I know the hard drives werent sold (she has a yard sale each year), so its just a matter of diggin thru the junk. I know I have a 500gb ide hard drive, so once I find it, if you want it, ill sell it to ya for the price of that 160gb hard drive newegg is tryin 2 sell. Thats just a rip off price imho w/ Newegg. Theyre just tryin 2 get rid of it. Honestly tho, if you wanna do anything w/ a desktop, invest towards a newer one. Just let me know via PM if youre interested in the hard drive.

How bout we double your luck? I will warn you first on this. I have a stick of 512mb pc2700 memory. The thing is im not sure if the bus speed will work. If it does, all itll do is slow down my stick to the 2600 (someone please confirm or deny this statement). If the previous statement is true, then ill throw in the stick of memory for free. So if I can find that hard drive over @ my moms place, all you gotta do is pay me for the hard drive + s&h. Just let me know.

The bus speed is too slow. 2100 is the max for the motherboard.

dont u mean the bus speed is too fast? the reason i ask is cause 2700 is higher than 2100, however please correct me if im wrong.

overall, i understand that the memory i have will be more than what the mobo can handle.
 
Well good news is that I found the hard drive that ive been wanting to sell, so ur in luck there. However, I did some research & apparently Amazon has some memory w/ the pc 2100 bus speed that youre looking for. Anyways, if youre interested in my hard drive, please feel free to let me know via PM.
 
Also if i remember correctly it wouldnt matter if he put ddr3200 in the desktop it would function as pc2100. IMO not worth the money, one the desktop wont be much use for anything but really web browsing and word processing, 2. The ram for it is expensive. Depending on the case you could possibly get a micro atx motherboard to replace the hp and get a new cpu and faster memory. But then you might have to do some extra rewiring for the front usb and power button connections.
