My Secret: How to get Steam to work with BF3.

I know it's been stressing a lot of you out...how will I be able to talk to people in Steam while I'm playing BF3?

Well I've tried this in both the alpha and the beta...and it works. Simply add Origin to Steam as a non-steam game, then rename it, and then launch Origin through Steam when you want to play. It'll show that you are now playing Battlefield 3, it'll open up Origin, launch the web browser like normal, join a server and ta-da! Your bind for Steam overlay will work. :]

I really hope they do add the game to steam.

but seriously. People don't want it on steam for the convenience; they want it for VAC, the chance of it going on sale some day, and so that Origin can't scan your computer (any information gathered can't legally incriminate you), this is the equivalent of putting a shortcut on the desktop.

I seen on g4tv, that EA and Valve are still in talks to get BF3 on to Steam yet...so maybe some hope for those that want it

I might do this...or I might just run it through Origin and occasionally alt-tab to check Steam. We'll see.

I think I just won't use steam. Origin in my opinion is fine but I know steam is better, but I won't use it as a non-steam game. I need to run BF3 smoothly and when it comes out Ultra Settings for Singleplayer

I still don't see why it is a big deal for people to use Origin. I already bought Crysis 2 for 16 dollars and Bulletstorm for 8 dollars yesterday; I think it's going to be a successful contender since they will be pricing games at a lower price like what Steam does to bring it more traffic, with Steam in the attempts to counter-counter attack it. I find it win-win, honestly. -smokes bubble pipe-

It's no secret. I set up all of my non-Steam games like this, including BC2, which I bought through Origin.

If that is too much of a resource hog on your computer, then your computer probably isn't good enough to play BF3. BF3 uses PB. It'll never use VAC. If it's ever added to Steam, it's just going to be a platform to buy it. Origin is required for all new EA games, and if you think that your computer is being scanned and information stored for law enforcement use, then you have bigger things to worry about, like that black helicopter hovering above your neighborhood.

you could add the bf3.exe right away. worked in the beta for me
