Hai guys!

A friend of mine needs a new laptop and I have no experience/knowledge what is good/bad for a laptop. So i am relying on you guys :D

It has to cost around 1400-1500 euro's. Primarly for gaming, but also for developping, design, programming, ... . Small SSD for windows, HDD for other stuff. (ssd is optional).

Thanks, any questions post below or pm :)

Quick question: Does it need to be shipped to the EU? Saw you said Euros...

uhm not really. I just need a list of parts, i order the parts with the shop i prefer and they deliver it and build it

You're going to build a laptop?

Do you mean "Desktop" by chance?

nope laptop, if that's possible otherwise show me some good model numbers etc etc. I know nothign of laptops :P

Then I'd suggest you buy a premade laptop, as building your own is a bigger pain exponentially compared to desktops.

Gotta pick out a chassis, LCD panel, the right parts, worry about overheating, etc. It's a bigger pain in the butt and if you never done it before, be prepared to spend a lot of time working on it.

Any preferences to CPU? Amount of RAM? USB 3.0 needed? Size of screen? Battery life vs GPU power? etc. etc.

if that is that hard i'd rather let this slip. I'll pick him a nice prebuilt. Anything i have to watch out for?

My brother always told me putting an i7 in a laptop consumes alot of battery. Stuff like that ;D

makes pretty nice costume builds more options than most laptop manufacturers offer

1) Glad you decided to not build a laptop, as it's a completely different beast than building a desktop PC. We'd love to advise you to build a desktop, but laptops, leave it to the manufacturers unless you got personal experience/contacts on how to build one.

2) Decide exactly what the purpose the laptop is for, because upgrading/replacing parts is a bigger pain in a laptop than a PC. For example, you want a bigger screen? Got to buy a brand new laptop for that whereas a monitor is easy to replace.

3) Warranty means a lot more on a laptop so pay attention to what manufacturer's offer. If you're cautious, or think you can experience problems with it, it sometimes does pay to buy an extended warranty, but that's your own personal preference.

4) Switchable graphics vs Dedicated graphics? Dedicated cards use up more battery life, but are usually faster performance, gamin wise because better cards are used. Switchable graphics are still great and can give you great FPS while at the same time giving you the added flexibility of turning the GPU off when you're only web browsing or answering e-mail. However, the option may not be available on the GPU you want to use.

5) Look at reviews of the laptops and try to test them out yourself, such as in Best Buy or Microcenter. One of the biggest complaints I see is about the screen. Other complaints would be about heat dissipation, size of the battery, the keyboard, and even the chassis design.

There's some basic tips for you on looking at laptops.
