Gaming keyboard - need some helpful input

Morning everyone.

New to eGO and enjoying the enormous community. As most people here are far more serious and engaging gamers then I am, I figured this is the best place to ask for some advice. Forgive me if this has been asked before as I did not do a recent search for the topic. And I figure it's the end of 2011, maybe there is something new and brilliant out there.

I need a new keyboard. Here is what I would like:

1)Quiet.
2)Very durable (I have heavy hands, type loud).
3)USB
4)Gaming proof (WASD reinforced).
5)Reasonably priced

I play Battlefield 3, BFBC2, MW, MoH as my primaries. I've noted some input problems and button sticking (character won't stop running in one direction for whatever reason) from time to time. I know I am a rather average player at best; but I can't help but wonder if a new input device might help me.

That, and when I type (loudly) it is driving my girlfriend nuts (which, actually, is a strong reason to keep the keyboard).

I do not need a mouse (Logitech G5 ftw, little beast rocks), which is good. I play(ed) WoW for years and years and have since stepped away from the game. I am not a macro person so I do not consider the extraneous buttons necessary.

Help a gamer out. By all means please leave your opinion and recommendations. Looking to get this done by Christmas (or earlier). Thanks everyone!

I have no complaints about it. I like the "side pad" with common gaming buttons grouped there.

It took a week or two to get use to it, but once I did.. I'll never go back to a normal keyboard.

Budget is basically "reasonable". Thinking around $100 should do the trick.

But I will pay more for quality and something that will give me several years of service. Long warranties with good companies are always cool.

Seriously though, I don't understand some people. If I'm sniping in a window, lining up a shot, and someone just walks and stands in front of the window, what do people expect? The best is driving the tank. I love piloting tanks, one of my favorite things. But when I am moving, some people just feel the need to walk in front of me. Last I checked, tank has the right of way on the battlefield. Damn these things need horns!

Sorry if I killed you on my team. You can see the need for a new keyboard.

If you're wanting a keyboard that will last, that pretty much narrows down your search to mechanical keyboards.

I would suggest anything that EliteKeyboards offers. For the most quiet of keyboards, go with either MX Browns or MX Reds. The difference between is that Browns are tactile, and reds are linear. Your choice.

Nice choices! I fully expected to see you gravitating gimicky keyboards with screens and lights :lol:

I personally use the Das with cherry blues (which is not quiet, but I love the sound). I would highly recommend the cherry browns as well (they have the same tactile action as the blues, but don't have the audible click). Once you get used to it you can type without bottoming out the keys. I find it really hard to type without bottoming out on any of the linear switches (black/reds). For that reason the browns are much quieter than the blacks when I'm typing. IMO one of the main reasons to go mechanical (aside from the durability) is the tactile feedback. If you find yourself bottoming out frequently and want to quiet that down check these out:

wasd also makes "custom" keyboards that can be ordered with bumpers already in place.

Regardless, you have good taste in your selections. Anything with Cherry Browns sounds perfect for you.

I use the Alienware TactX, and am loving it. Admittedly though, whilst I tell myself its normally because I play BF3 in low lighting (because normally I don't notice the sun went down), its probably because I am a sucker for lights and a big alien head. You can pick them up for < 100 bucks now.

The DAS is a good choice, I currently use the same exact one. They come with Cherry MX Browns so they are quieter than most, but not exactly silent as it says. You will hear some noise, but it won't be too loud.
