Today, like any other day i went to play cs:s with my good buddies (you fine fellows).
However upon recieving the usual "Preparing to launch counter strike: source...", nothing happened.
I haven't changed anything with my system and i played just fine a couple days ago.

Was there an update my graphics card just can't handle?

Also i'd put this in tech help but as i only play cs:s i assumed it might be a category problem and not a computer error.

Thanks for any assistance.

Do all the normal things, clear game cache, check the files, etc. You can do this all by right clicking the game in steam. If that fails you may have to uninstall and reinstall CS:S. This has happened to me a couple times, steam will release an update and it won't install right breaking CS:S.

I would recommend backing up your maps folder or anything else you want to keep.

Right click on CS:S, and do the defrag / verify cache (both of them) > restart steam > see if that helps, also if you have any skins or other models (no idea if this causes start up problems) but try removing them from your css folders (still keep them on your desktop of where ever else) and then try launching and see what happens.

If not I'm not sure what's the problem other then your computer just being slow. If all else fails you may have too reinstall.

Along with the tools-of-the-trade the above people said, you may also just need to clean up space on your computer.

Disk-Cleanup (Start Menu - Accessories - System Tools)
Disk Defrag (Start Menu - Accessories - System Tools)

Also check for any and all updates. If running windows, Windows Updates, Virus scanner updates, steam client updates..the whole kebab.

This started to happen to me last night after a steam update, all of my drivers are up to day, I have a 460 with an ok amd processor.. so not sure

This is a normal messup with steam... Value is trying to fix

All games have this problem ... Value says "If you are have this problem DO NOT PANIC! it easy to fix, just reinstall the local files OR right click CS:S-> Properties-> Local Files-> Defragment Cache files"
Have a great day

this has happened to me in the past and i contacted steamsupport and they told me to go to library>right click the game that is not launching>click properties>click local files>and click on verify integrity of game cache and defragment cache files. This fixed my problem hope it helps.
