A Question Before I Buy

Hey guys, I'm from the DoD:S division but I got into the BF series on BC2 on PS3 and was and still sort of am super excited about BF3. I was all pumped to get it for my birthday on the 9th (The day after MW3 release, I know, I know) but now I don't know if I want it. I hope it's not to taboo to bring this up here but I just want an educated answer from someone more reliable like an eGO member than just some random reviewer online.

The thing that has made me pull back a little is some big controversy going on with Origin. Personally, I hate the program. I have one other game that requires it and I wish I could just have it on steam but whatever. The problem is that when I looked at it on amazon, the vast majority of reviews were 1 star out of 5 because Origin supposedly collects as much information from your computer as they choose, which you agree to allow in the EULA and they may even give or sell it to other companies. Is this true? If it is true, how big of a deal is it/will it affect me at a noticeable level?

Also I heard the server browser is web browser based like it was in the beta. Is this also true? I'd be kind of disappointed in that unless someone can explain why it would be better.

I hope I can get some good answers here instead of just out in the labyrinth that is the internet because I was actually swaying towards buying MW3 instead which hurts me because it looks so much like MW2 which I hated.

Origin doesn't require much in the way of system resources (I run it with Steam, Origin, and Firefox open --with about 65 tabs)...and I run it through Steam so I can still use the Steam overlay while in BF3. Works like a charm...no lag or poor performance. The information collection was a rumor that went around because of a poorly phrased clause in their terms of service. It was adjusted, and Origin collects the same sort of information you give to Steam (your system specs, installed software, etc) mainly for performance concerns.

The server browser is web-based, launches the game quickly, and has a nicely implemented stats/community system built right into the web-browser. Makes joining games with friends and comparing stats a cinch.

Much ado about nothing.

They changed the EULA but some people are just too paranoid: http://bf3blog.com/2011/08/ea-updates-origin-eula-after-criticism/ (also this has been discussed in multiple threads if you search.)

They aren't doing anything new here as far as system scanning, etc.

The server browser works fine and I actually prefer it to the way BC2 was set up. It's fast, you can see where all of your friends are playing, create parties, chat etc.

If you didn't like MW2 and you DID like BC2 I can't possibly understand why you wouldn't get BF3. The worst part about it for me is that I suck pretty bad and it's quite frustrating. I guess I'm just getting old and my reflexes aren't so hot anymore.

Ok well that's good to hear. I kind of didn't think EA would go that extreme. Well hopefully I will have the game soon. Thanks for your help

Its a little different from BC2 on unlocks, but for the most part it improved upon BC2's mechanics and changed the graphics a little. While Battlelog is new and different, it works great most of the time and its nice to see a central place for stats hosted by EA themselves.

The facts have been stated and I hope they have helped you want to buy the game. I'm going to be 100% truthful with you and say that battlelog can be glitchy and a pain in the ass but they have been working on getting the kinks in the game worked out. Aside from that I have nothing bad to say about the game, it's a ton of fun and I think very solid. I could care less about things like origin and battlelog as long as the game is working the way it should and BF3 works and plays amazing.

Bottom line is, get it you won't be disappointed.
